Description

V. FERRARA APPARATUS FOR. DRYING CLOTHES Filed Dec. 14
Syvum/Hoz Watertown, in the county of Patented Apr. 24, 1923.
UNITED srATlssl VINCNT FERRARA, OF WATER'IIOWN, SOUTiH DAKOTA.
APPARATUSKFOR DRYING CLOTHES.
Application led December 14, 1921. Serial No. 522,326.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, VINCENT FERRARA, a citizen of the United States residing at Codington and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Drying Clothes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a clothes dryer, and the object of the invention is the construction of a simple and efficient clothes drier, especially designed to dryy clothes that have been dry-cleaned by the French method, or other dry-cle ning methods, and, in particular, is eilicient where the 'clothes have been cleaned with the use of gasoline or benzine.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1k is a longitudinal, sectional view of an apparatus constructed in accordance with the present invention..
Figure 2 is a sectional view, taken on line' 2 2, Fig. 1, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary, perspective view of the discharge pipe.
Figure 4 is a perspective View of the metal brackets 7, which brackets 7 are not only secured to thev top of the sheet 6 but are also fastened to the under face of the top of the room or compartment 1.
yA blower 8 is positioned close to the top ofthe room or compartment 1, and 'this blower 8 is connected by pipe 9 to the discharge pipe 10. This discharge pipe 10 is provided with a longitudinally extending f slot 11 that extends the entire length of the pipe and is adapted to direct air,I under pressure, against the coils 5 and sheet 6; the air discharged through pipe 10 will be heated by steam pipe, and, by reason of the sheet 6 will be deiected or forced down against the clothes suspended in the room or compartment. The clothes or suits may be suspende/d from poles 12, and as the clothes are usually more heavily padded at the top than at the bottom, the air will strike against the yclothes with more force at the top, tending to dry the clothes evenly. The air from blower 8 is 'pure and clean andby forcing the air into the room or compartment while discharging the same against the clothes, the lighter vapors from the clothes that are being dried,'will rise to the top of the room or compartment and pass out of the outlet 2, whereas the heavier odors or fumes will movetl the bottom of the room or compartme/nt and will pass out at the outlet 3.
I know from actual experience that clothes dried by my apparatus will come out from the drier absolutely without odor. In the structure herein described, the positive flow of clean and fresh air in the drier is obtained, which air is immediately heated. The air is forced into the clothes where it removes the gases, vapors, odors and moisture, and then these gases, or vapors allowed to escape from the room or compartment as soon as released from the clothes without being forced through the clothes again.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, and have illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to^-which ythis invention relates, during the exteiisive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In an apparatus of the class described, the combination of a compartment provided with an outlet in its top and an outlet in its' bottom, a heating pipe extending into said compartment, asheet within the compart ment above the heating pipe, an air discharge pipe in the compartment under the heating pipe and sheet, and means for suspending clothes in the compartmentunder the heating pipe and the sheet.
2. In an apparatus of the class described, the combination of a compartment having a discharge opening in its top and a discharge opening in its bottom, a steam pipe extending through one end of the compartment and formed into coils at the top ofthe compartment, a metal sheet above the c'oils in the compartment, angle brackets fastened to the sheet and also fastened to the top of the compartment, a discharge pipe in said compartment under the coils and the sheet, said discharge pipe provided near its top with a slot extending the length of the pipe, and means for suspending clothes under the discharge pipe, coils and sheet, substantially as shown and described.
3. In an apparatus of the class described, the combination of a compartment provided With outlets, clothes supporting means in the compartment between said outlets, a deflecting sheet in the compartment above said clothes supporting means, and means in the compartment for supplying heated air against the sheet for directing the same around said clothes supporting means.
4. In an apparatus of the class described, the combination with a compartment, of a heating pipe in said compartment, a deflecting sheet above the heating pipe, a discharge pipe with a slot discharging air against the heating pipe and the sheet, and clothes supporting means Within the compartment.
5,111 an apparatus of the class described,`
the combination of a compartment having discharge means,` a steam pipe, extending through one end of the compartment and formed into coils at the top of the compartment, a metal sheet above the coils in the compartment, angle brackets fastened to the sheet and also fastened to the top of the compartment, a discharge pipe in said compartment under the coils and the sheet, said discharge pipe provided near its to withv a slot extending the length of the pipe, and means for suspending clothes under the discharge pipe, coils and sheet, as and for the purposes set forth.
'6. In an apparatus of the class described, the combination of a compartment having discharge means, a steam pipe extending into said compartment and formed into coils at the top of the compartment, a deflector sheet suspended above the coils in the compartment, a discharge pipe. in said compartment at one end thereof and extending under and transversely to said coils, said discharge pipe provided in its upper portion with a slot extending longitudinally thereof, and means for suspending clothes under the discharge pipe, coils and sheet, as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aix my signature.
VINCENT FERRARA.
