Be it known that l, HARRY 4OnsHaiv, .a citizen of Austria, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented an AImprovement in Lunch Boxes, of which the following is a specification. y 4 y This invention relates to lunch boxes and more particularly tok that type of lunch box which is so constructed that the parts orfvwalls thereof may be folded to the set up position to contain the lunchl and mayy be also folded to a collapsed position so as tov be fiat and thus readily adapted to be carried in the pocket ofthe user or otherwise. It will be understood, however, that while l p have illustrated and will describe my invention as particularly adapted to a lunch box the use thereofwill not beso limited.` l ain aware that heretofore various forms of collapsible lunch boxes and similar receptacles have been proposed, and also that in these constructions the walls of the box arey so made and'connected that. the parts thereof are foldable to position for use and also foldable to a collapsed position when not in use. In the common forms of such boxes, however, with which I am acv quainted it is not possible in view of the manner in which the 'parts of the box are connected to make any part of the walls: of the box or all 'the wallsthereof lie flat or in substantially the same plane as when thebox is open, and inasmuch as in the use of these lunch boxes itis often desirable in. order to have -a clean *placev on which the lunch contained lin the box beeaten. toprovide a flat surface ortable for this purpose, and one object of my invention is to so construct a vlunch 4box that either all the walls or a portion thereof Vmay'beunfolded and caused to lie flat so that the' l thus flattened walls ofv the box when unfolded may be utilized asaitable, the coneither in a set up or a collapsed position and it is therefore a further object of my n ,invention to provide a collapsible lunch 'box so constructed that the parts thereofmay be secured or locked together both when the parts are setup as a containerA and also when the partsy are collapsed when"A not in use, and as constructed the lock ory latch employed is one that is adapted tose'cure the parts of the box in position either when in 'an assembled condition 0r when in a collapsed condition, that isto sayv the latch or locking feature is a unitary one for performing its function whenrv the Abox is either setv up or collapsed, as will be hereinafter more particularly described. .v Ingthe drawing: Figure l is 'a perspective view illustrating a lunch box made in accordance with my invention and showing the parts vas partiallyopened for use with predetermined vwalls maintained in a set up position lto retain the lunch, while other walls are un-. folded and causedfto lie hat in order Ithat the same may be utilized as a table.
F ig. 2 isa plan view'of the box with allthe parts thereof in an extended or flattenedy condition. p
F ig. 3 is a plan of the box with the parts in their folded or collapsed positions, and
4L is a perspective View showing 'the box with the parts folded to the set up position for use.
Vcomposed of a: plurality ofwallsmade of Sheet metal or other similar material as is customary in the art to which this inven-l tion relates. These walls include a base or bottom wall 1() to which there is piv-V otally connectedan end wall 11. VThis end wall at its outer edge is turned over as i`n` dicated'atl 12, providing between the same and the adjacent portion'f'of the end wall ya pocket 13, the 'end'wal'l 11 being hinged orv pivotally connected to theedge of the bottom member 10 vat one end thereof as indicated at 14. Similarly at the other end l edge" of the bottom 10 there is anend wall 15. At its outeredge this is inturnjed as indicate/d at 16'to provide a pocket'be'tween the inturneol endL and the' adjacent portion i ico of the end wall as indicated at 17 and the"y end wall 15 is `pivotallyconnected tothe end edge of the bottom 10'as` indicated at" 18. The front walllis indicated at/19 and this ispivotally connected to the front edge A 4.- ,UAL
` a flap 21 Which is pivotally connected thereto as indicated zit-.22. Similarlyat the opposite end of the front Wall 19 there is a flap 23 Which is 1)i'-.fotally connected thereto as indicated at24. n this front Wall 19 and in a suitable position therein there 4is provided a revoluble latch member 25 which is connected thereto b v a pivot 26 or otherivisefso as to readily turn on the pivot. i Thebox also includes a rear Wall 27 `which is` pivotallyv connectedL to the otherlong edge of the base l as indicated at 28. Atene end the :rear` Wall 27 is, provided with a flap 29 pivotally connected thereto as` indicated at 30 and this flap-29 is similar in construction tothe flap23.v At its opposite end the rear Wall 27 is provided with a iiap 31 which is pivotally connected thereto as indicated at 32, and this flap 31 is similar to the flap 21, all these flaps beingjr similarly constructed and adapted to slide in the pocket-S13 and 17 in assembling or setting' up the parts of the box for use. f f
The box also includes a top Which, along,` one long;` edge, ispivotally connected to the opposite long edge of the rear member 27 as indicated at 311. At itsend the top member 33 is turned'fover and thus provided with extensions indicated at 35 and 36,` and pivotally connected to the top member 33 alongits opposite long edge is a flapv dicated, may.\include,a.pair of U-shaped straps made of Wire or lother suitable material and engage-at their ertremitiesby hooks 41 which are` secured in the top meni-4 ber in any desired niannerland-also a bar 42 which extends between the AU-shaped straps,
if Gand is. pivotally' connectedthereto so that the parts of the handle maybe raised from.
