ToaZZw/tomit may concern: i
Be it known that'IQSTANLY LnczYcKI, a cltizen "of Poland residing at Detroit, inth'ecounty of Wayne and State ofMichigan; have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locks, of which'the fol- "lowingi s (i/specification] This invention object of the present, in the provision of a death lockingYme'ans for rendering the lock" in.

operative until released. 1 "Another Object ofthe invention is to pro vide oa latch adapted to be housed in the same'casingwith the be handled as a unit. k
With theseand other objects in view the invention consists'in the novel construction,
combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the follow ing specification, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is an end view of this combined.
lock and latch,
Figure 2 is a side viewofFigure 1, Figure 3 is a sectional view through line 33 ofFiguret, 7
Figure 4 is a side view of the device show. ing the cover plate removed,- and *igure 5 is a detail perspective of the Referring to the drawings by characters of reference the numeral 10 designates the lock casing having'a cover plate ,11 which is secured to the edges of the flanges 12 formed on the m'arginal edge's ofthe plate proper intervals on the inplate13 within the confines 12 are inwardly extending lugs 13. F orined at ner side of the of the flanges 1445 and 1e.
Formed inv the plates 13 and 11 are alined openings for the reception of a barrel memer 17 having formed therein a longitudinally extending rectangular opening 18 for.
g the reception of the usual rectangular shaft to whichthe customary knobsare secured. Formed. adjacent one end ofsaid barrel memberis a rock arm 19, the flat face ofwhich engages a rocker 20 which is pivoted I, at its upper end as at 21 behind a tongue 22 formed on the inner side of the uppermost flange 12 adjacent its rear end.
23 extends forwardly from the upper end of the rocker upon the under side of which del -25 formed at the" of the upper flange, 12. Pivotally connected latch look so that both may j operate with the inafter described.

bears the end] of, a leaf spring 24:, the .;op-, posite'end of'which is secured'between the lug 14 and a downwardly extending shoulextreme forward end asat .26 to the lower end ofthexrocker 20 is thefrear end of a latch member 27,"therelates to improvements in H locks andnioreparticularly to that class of locks used for securing" doors in closed positi'on; The principal invention resides forward end "of which is slida bly 1mounted in an opening formed in the forward cover 24Lv will yieldably hold [and that upon turning may be withdrawn sure of said spring. I s
Slidably mounted between the lugs 15 and 16- is thelocking the latch projected againstfthe pres directly beneath the opening through whichthe latch member operates. As shown in the drawings the loweredge of the bolt 29 is provided with 'alon-' gitudinal recess, the end walls of which co lug 15 to limit the movement ofsaid bolt. Formed near the inner end of said bolt and extending thereinto from its under side isa recess, the end walls of which are arcuately formed to provide cam faces 30 and 31 which are engaged by the bitof a key which i's adapted to be en tered into the lock through formed near the lower rear end of the plates 11 and 13. The upper edge of the bolt 29 is formed near its rear end with a stop lug 33,'the use of which will bemore fully here- Pivoted as at 34 to the plate 13 and ex tending rearwardly in parallel relation to the locking bolt is a lever 35formednear its rear end with an upstanding arm proivid'ed at its upper end with an angularly extending tongue 36 which is adapted to" rest upon the upper edge ofthe bolt and provide a stop for the lug 33. Aspring 37 is mounted in a suitable bracket 38 and its rear end bearson .the upper side of the tongue tact with the upper edge of the bolt and 1n the path of the lug 33. As shownvinthe,
drawings the loweredge'ofthe lever 35 lies in the when the said key is turned in the lock,
the barrel 17 the plate 28. @It willthus be seen that the spring' bolt 29, th'e, forward. end s of which projects through an 'opening formed in plate 28 keyholes 32 36 to hold the same infrictional conpath of the bit of the key so that the lever will be swung upwardly about the pivot 34 so as to elevate the tongue 36 in such position as to clear the lug 33 so that the bolt may be projected or withdrawn according to its original position.
In order to provide a dead lock for the bolt 29, a pin 39 projects inwardly "from the plate 13 at a point slightly above the free end of the spring 37 and pivotally mounted on said pin is a barrel 40 provided with a flattened face 4:1. An arm projects angularly from the barrel 4:0 near one end and l is provided with an angularextension, e2;
through this invention it is to the under face of which is adapted to be moved into contact with the upper side of the spring 37 adjacentits free end to prevent said spring and its associated mechanism from moving upwardly and releasing j the bolt. 15.
, is controlled by a q ubu ar barrelee provided interiorly with The position oftheangular extension is key 43 provided with a be understood that minor changes in the details of construction,
combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is A lock comprising a casing, a bolt slidable in said casing, said bolt being adapted to be projected and retracted by a key, a stop lug on the upper edge of the bolt, a lever pivoted within the casing, atongue projecting laterally from the upper edge of the lever in position to engage the lug, when the bolt is in projected or retracted position, a flat leaf spring normally urging the tongue against the upper edge of the bolt, said tongue being elevated out of contact with the bolt by the bit of the bolt actuating key, and a key actuated member mounted above the tongue, and adapted to be turned into engagement with the spring directly over the tongue to prevent isaid tongue from'being moved outof the path of the stop lug.
In witness whereof I afiix my signature."
