Description

Patented Mar. 27, 1923.

ADOLPH MUEHLEISEN AND Gnovn'n e, MUEHLEISEN, or SAN DIEGO, ALIFORNIA TENT.
Application filed May 31,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, Anonrrr MUEHLEISEN and GRovnn C. Mrnsnnnrsrn, citizens of the United States, residing at San Diego, inthe county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Tent, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to tents, more particularly to small camping or beach tents of the single pole type and the objects of our invention are: First, to provide a tent of this class which provides a relatively large headway at the top with a relatively low or short tent; second, to provide a tent which is approximately square shaped at the top with a curved upper surface to shed water, then flares outwardly in square shape to the base, thus providing a very. commlodious tent in accordance'with its height and size; third,-to provide new andn'ovel'means for supporting the top square portion of the tent; fourth, to provide a novel tent structure, and fifth, to provide a tent of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, easy to set up and take down, efficient'and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
lVith these and other objects in view as Q will appear hereinafter our invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure 1 is a top or plan view of our tent set up, showing by dotted lines the position of the rigid member for supporting the square top portion of the tent. Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the tent set up with the door flap partially open and Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective view showing the relation of the supporting members at the top with the corner pockets in the .square portion of the top and the positioningof the ends in their supported positions.
supports 5 and 6 and pocket members 7 Similar characters of reference refer toma. Serial Nate 1,723
constitute the principal -partsand portions of our tent structure.
The tent pole- 3 type provided with a pin 3 extending from the normally upper end thereof in the cenis Ofnthel conventional ter and mounted on this in 3* are the two curved diagonalj supportsfi', and-'Gjby means of holes centrally in said supports, as shown in the drawings, thelextended ends of the 7 best in Fig. 1 of the drawings. It will bev four, supports forming a] square, as shown noted that these. supports are curved'up wardly providing a curved top portion for Z .side forming a. pocket into which the ends of the members 5; and 6 ;extend, as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the ends being rounded as shown, thus providing means. for supporting the tent cover relatively to the diagonal supports 5 and 6. The body portion 1 of the tent is secured to the outer edge of the rectangular cover portion 4: and consists of strips of approximately the same width as one side of the rectangular portion 4 extending downwardly to the ground and tapering outwardly, one of which is used for afdoor or flap for ingress to and egress from the tent. The corners are made up of two triangular members, thus providing a flaring tent'with the rectangular shaped portion 4: approximately three feet square and flaring out.- wardly to approximately three times the width'of the top 4: in each direction,-as shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
Though we have shown and described a ver these members 5, and 6 is proparticular construction, combination and ary I rangement of parts and portions wedo not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of our invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
It is obvious that with this construction there is provided a tent with/an approximately square shaped top with curved diagonal supports for said top, the ends of which extend into pockets in the top portion at the corners thereof and :urved sufficiently so that the center is considerably higher than the outer edge, thus providing a tent which is not very high proportionate'to its capacity and provides plenty of head room around the supporting center pole; that the diagonal curved supports with their ends mounted in the pockets at the corners provide a rigid support for the tent top and also providing a sufiiciently curved top to shed rain; that the pockets 7 are so shaped and positioned that the ends of the members 5 and 6 are easily placed therein.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A tent or" the class described, including a center pole with a pin in the upper end thereof, a pair of diagonally positioned curved supports provided with central holes mounted on said central pole, and a square shaped cover provided with pockets at each corner into which the extended ends of said curved supports extend for rigidly supporting said cover supports and holding them in their certain relative positions to each other, and a flaring tent body secured to the outer edge of said square shaped cover and extending outwardly and downwardly to the ground.
means for supporting said rectangular shaped top so that the center is slightly higher than the outer edge and a central pole engaging and supporting the central portion of said means.
3. A tent of the class described, including a central pole provided with a pin in the upper end in the center thereof, a pair of curved supporting members with holes in their centers mounted over said pin, a square shaped cover member provided with pockets in each corner adapted to engage the extended ends of said supporting members whereby said square shaped cover memher and said supports are held in certain relative positions to each other, whereby said supports are diagonal to said square shaped cover, and a tent body secured to the outer edge of said square shaped cover.
4. A tent of the class described, including a central pole, a rectangularly shaped, curved and reinforced top provided with holes in the center with which said pole engages and atent body secured to the outer edge or" said rectangularly shaped top and supported at the lower corners.
In testimony whereof, we have hereunto set our hands at San Diego, California, this 23d day of May, 1922.
ADOLPH' MUEHLEISEN. GROVER C. MUEHLEISEN.
