To all whomitmay concern." p Be it known that l, FREDERICK M. GRmrEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city and State of 6 Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain Combs, of
i which the following-is a specification.
This invention relates to' combs which are constructed tolap'ply medicaments and the like to the. scalp, and its object is toprovide a comb of this kind embodying certain. novel and improved features of construction to be hereinafter described in de-' tail and cluimed.-
In order that the invention maybe better understood, reference is had to the secondpanying drawing, wherein-'' Figure l is en elevation of the"co1 nb partly in section; i
F'g. 2 is a. cross-section on the line 22.. ofFig.1;- 7
Fig.3 is en enlarged cross-section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, end i of e filler device.
Referring; specifically to the drawing,
' the comb which is the subject matter of the.
present application for patent consists of a back 5, teeth 6 and e handle 7. The hack and the handle ere hollow, and etch tooth has n longitudinally extendingdischarge duct '8 leading from the chamber 9 of the back and opening through the extremity or tip of the tooth; The rear end of the comb beck hes a. nipple 10 to which the handle is fitted end secured in any suitable'manner.
In the chamber formed in the handle 7 is'mounted a resilient reservoir 11 for the 'meteriel which is to be ejected from the comb. The rear end of this reservoir is fitted with a. filler nipple 12 which'pesses through and projects *from the correspond.- ing end of the handle, end has its projectas shown in Fig. 1.
niPPle 10 so that the met fi l V ing' end screw=threaded to receives. closure in the form of-en ordinary screw cup-13,-
oherg ed into theheomb chemberltk, 3
nipple it is provided with as hell or other check valve 15 to prevent e return flow into ther'eservoir l1.
lin order to force the material from the reservoir 11 into the comb chamber 9, it is-necessary to compress the former, and for this purpose the handle 7 has a. side opening 16 through which protrudes a, handle 17 attached to and projecting from a presser plate 18 which bears against the side of the reservoir, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Upon ressing inwardly on the handle 17, the p etc 18 compresses the reser- -voir and forces the material therein through the outlet nipple 14 into the CODIklO chamber 9, from which. letter, the materiel escepes' by the way of the ducts 8 to the scalp, the comb being movedthrough the heir in the usuel manner.
' To fill the reservoir 11, it is necesseryonly to remove the cap 13 end epply to the nipple 12, the device shdwn in Fig. 4. This device consistsof a. piech of tubing 19' hav- 4: is an elevation, partly in section, ingaone of its ends fitted with an outlet nipple 20 which is internally threeded to screw on the projecting end of the nipple 12. The tubing 19 is to be inserted into the bottle or other receptacle containingtibi:
liquid with which the reservoir is to filled. Before this is done, the reservoir must be compressed, and upon releasing the heck which is hol low to form it chamber therein, teeth extend essocieted with seid outlet, filler nipple connected to the reservoir and projecting from the handle, at removehle ciosure for seid. n pple, end e resser 'devite for the reservoir hevin'p; ectueting me "protruding through the hendle side opening; 1
combheg; e beet; which is hollow to form a chamber therein, teeth extending from said back and having discharge ducts leading froin the chamber, a hollow handle carrying theback, a resilientreservoinin 5 the hollow of the handle and having an outlet into the aforesaid chamber, a check 'valve assoeiated with said outlet, a filler sure for said nipple, and means for 'compressing the reservoir.
In testim'ony whereof I aflix my signatnre.
FREDERICK M; GRIETEN.
