Be it known that I, RAWLnY DE Wrr'r HAAS, a citizen of the United States,and a resident of La- Habra, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, haveinvented certa in new and useful Improvements in Playing Cards,"of which the foL lowing is a specification.

My present invention relates particularly to playing cards, my object being the provisionof playing cardsby means of which various ames ma be] la ed includin P s practically all games'to which the ordinary playing-cards are adapted, aswell as many others.

While difi'ering materially in certain respects from the usual playing cards, my improved set of cards while adapted to the playing'of many interesting games beyond those of which the ordinary playing cards are adapted, are in many respects similar to the usual playing cards'and'are suficiently like the latter so that practically all games of which the ordinary playing cards are capable, can be played with the improved cards. This is an important consideration I of the invention and'like the points of dif- I the joker card of the usual present instance however, distinguished by geometrical figures and colors. I Two-suits areof one color and two sults are of another color, the suits of one color having different geometrical figures and the suits of the other color having different geometrical figures corresponding in reversed relation to the geometrical figures distinguishing the sults of the first mentioned color. Thus there are two red suits, one suit being red dot and the other red square and there are two black suits, one black dot and one black square.

Figures 1 and 2 show the highest and next to the highest cards of the red dot suit, each card of this suit having a large red G,"and- J' in the order named; I

Figure 9-shows the square dot card, equivalent to'the jokerof the usual playing cards, having in addition to-its designations as the square dot card a large red circle 15 within'a black square 16.

The cards from 3 to,1 O ofea'ch. suithave their main designations within their central figures in the form of numeralslprogressing from 3 to 10 inclusive, the- 10 card shown in Figure 6 being the highest card of the numeral series and the 3cardlshown in Figure 8being the lowest card of the numeral: series. Each numeral card has its main designating numeral 17 duplicated in diag onally opposite corners outwardly beyond the miniature 13 as-at 18 and eachnumeral card has its corresponding letter value in a small letter 19v inwardly beyond the miniature'13, there being an equal number of nu meral and letter cards in each series so that the numeral cards maywhave small letters 19 intheir'pips corresponding tothe large letters'of the letter'series A,"B,' C',"D, E, F,-

The letter series of each suit, including the eight cards A, B, o, D, E, F, G, J have their suit having a value below the letter trump numerals 14 inwardly beyond the miniature figures in their pips individually corresponding to their values in the suit, the A card having the small numeral 18, the B card having the the numeral 16, the 1) card having the numeral 15, the E card having the numeral 14, the,Fcard having the numeral 13, the G cardhaving the numeral 12 and the J card having the numeral 11, and it is thus obvious the cards of each series may be played as if progressing from 3 to 18 without any reference whatever to the letter series above the 10' card, likewise each suit may be played as if the two series were entirely independent, that is by disregarding altogether the numerals of the letter cards above the 10 card.

Likewise the square dot card of Figure 9 may be played as the highest card of both the numeral and letter series of the trump suit or it may be utilized as the highest card of merely the numeral series ofthe trump series of that suit.

Moreover the trump may be declared as either red dot, red square, black dot or black square, that is designating the entire suit as trump including both the numeral and letter cards, or the trump may be declared as the letter cards of any series or the numeral cards of any series, the other series not so namedbeing either played as sub cards, with a value proportionately less than that of the cards declared as trump, or as non-trump cards having no value and played like the cards of the other suits.

There being sixteen cards to each complete suit and four suits, the entire set of cards will total sixty-four in number with the square dot card of Figure 9 making the sixty-fifth card, and it is uite obvious that by distinguishing the di erent suits as 1 have done by two colors and two figures, the

suits of like color having different figures and the suits of like figures having different colors, it is obvious that the entire set of cards are thus divided in half by specifyingthe figures without reference to the colors or by specifying the colors without reference to the figures. Thus the trump may be de clared either dots or squares. If declared squares, the black squares and red squares are played against the black dots and red dots. If however the trump is declared red,

numeral 17, the 0 card having squares, and may also be divided into eighths as where either the letter series or the numeral series of any particular suit is selected in the manner previously set forth.

In using tion it will be vfound that substantially all of the games capable of being played by the usual cards may with equal facility be played with my cards and in addition to such games, many others of similar or greater interest and entertainment may be played with my cards of which the ordinary cards are incapable. a

1. A set of playing cards consisting of four suits of sixteen cards each, one pair of suits having one color and the. other pair having another color, one suit of each color having the same figure designation and the other suit of each color having the same figure designation different from the, figure of the first two pairs, each of said suits being divided into two series of eight cards each, one series including numeral cards of progressively increasing numbers and the other series having: letter cards each with a different letter.

2. A set of playing cards consisting of four suits of sixteen cards each, one pair of suits having one color and the other pair having another color, one suit of each color having the same figure designation and the other suit of each color having the same fig: ure designation different from the figure of the first two pairs, each of said suits being divided into two series of eight cards each, one series including numeral cards of pro gressively increasing numbers and the other series having letter cards each with a different letter, the cards of the numeral series of each suit having letter pips corresponding to the letters of the cards of the letter series, and the cards of the letter series having numeral pips progressively increasing above the numerals of the cards of the numeral series.
