CONTAINER EV CE.
Application filed March'15, 1921. Serial No. 452,560. g i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that, we, Fnnnnnion SoHMn) and Monnls Rosow, citizens of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Container Devices, of which the following is a specification; I One ob'ect of our invention is to provide an improved food container which can be attached to the outer side of a building adjacent a window and which can be easily swung from a position directly in front of the window into a position in front of the adjacent wall; said container having an opening which, when the device is in front of the window, will allow access to the interior of the container and when thedevice is swung in front ofthe wall, the latter willforrn a closure for said opening.
Anotherobject is-to provide means of simple construction which will facilitate the swinging action and'at the same time will hold andprevent the container from accidentallyswinging away from in front of the wall. r
i A, further object is to make the device or our invention of a strong and durable construction which can beeasily and cheaply manufactured.
These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, we at tain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which- I I Figure 1 is an elevation showing a building having a side wall with a window, the device of our invention being attached and illustrated in apositi'onin front'of the wall with the wall forming a closure for the opening of the container, 4
v Figure 2 is a sectional plan view taken on the line 22 of Figure Figur'eflis a view looking in the directionof the arrow :20 in Figure 1; the wall being shown insection,
' "Figure 4" is a View of similar character toFigu'r'e 2 showing the container swung in midway position, froin the wall to the window or vice *versa,
Figure 5 is a front elevation showing the container having been swungi in front of the window with'the"sash of the window raised to permit aceess"to"" theinterior of the container for the purpose of putting food therein orflremoving food therefrom said view being shown on an enlarged scale,
' 'Figure 6 is a View looking from the in,-
side of the window and. showing the container 1n the pos tion; illustratedin Figure 5 and drawn-on the same scale as Figures 1 to 4 inclusive, and
Figure 7 is an enlarged fragmentary-sea tional plan view taken on' the line 7+7" of Figurel. V i I j Referring to' the drawings, -8 represents abuilding having a wall 9 in which'is positioned a window 10 having a sash '11 which can be raisedand lowered in the usual manner. Our improved device-includes a box 12 which is preferably made'rectangular with a straight front providing an opening 13. A frame lfin'cludes twomain' supporting strips 15 which are-preferably joined by reinforcing brace bars 16 as clearly shown in Figures '1 and This frame is secured by screws or other suitable means to the outer closed side 17 of the box 12 opposite and parallel with the opening a right connecting rod portionz28 wvliichffits within the bearings-18 between the arms'2l and 22 as clearly shownin Figures 1 and 5. The arms 21 and 22 of the yoke'20 have vertically extending hooked ends 24: and
25 which respectively fit in vertical holes" in wall brackets 26 and 27 said holes being. i
positioned one directly above-the other and so that thebrackets form socketbearings to perinit'the .yoke '20 to swing thereon-as an axis with the arms 21, and22 movable in horizontal planes and'so'that the rod portion 23 of the yoke maintains a vertical position and moves concentric toathe coincident axes of said holes" in the-brackets 26 27 An auxiliary support ,28 includesavertical rod 29' which extends through thebearings 1'9 andanyintegral aim -30 :at=its lower end below "therbottom" hearing 19 :said arm 30 being arranged horizontally? and-having a vertically hool zed-dependi'n rend 31W 'rparalle o til he are the hole in which the end 25 tits. The holes in the brackets 26 and 2? are arranged parallel with the bearings 18 and 19 and the arm 30 is arranged parallel with the arm 22 of the yoke 20. The arms 21, 22 and 30 are of greater length than the distance between the closed side 17 of the box and the front part of the opening 13 and when the box is either entirely in front of the wall 9 or window 10, the arms will be positioned at a slant as shown for example in Figures 2 and 7. The brackets 26 and 27 can be secured in any suitable manner to the window frame and it will be noted that when. the box is swung for example from the position shown in Figures 5 and 6 in front of the window, the front of the box will move so as always to be parallel with the wall and window as cle-arly'shown in Figure 4 so that when the box is moved into theposition shown in Figures 1 and 2, the edge of the box providing the opening 13 will abut the wall and be parallel therewith so that the wall will form a closure for the opening as shown in Figure 7. When, however, the boxis swung into a position in front of the window as shown in Figures 5 and 6, access may be had to the interior of the box through the opening 13 by raising the sash 11 so that any articles of food can be inserted or removed as clearly obvious from Figure Got the drawing.
In order to lock the box, we provide a bolt 32 which is in the form of a plate having an upright slot 33 through which headed pins 34 extend into the end 35 of the box 12. The upper end of the plate 32 has a handle portion 36 so that by grasping the handle portion the box can be swung into any of said positions and the bolt can be raised and lowered. The bolt 32 is so arranged as shown in Figure 7 that when lowered while the box is in position directly in front of the wall, said bolt will enter the space between the arms 22 and 30 and will abut the inner surface of said arm 30; thus preventing the box from moving away from the wall since with the construction as illustrated and above described the box must necessarily move in a parallel path and when the bolt is in its lowered position it will jam against the arm 30 if it is attempted to swing the box away from the wall. However, when the bolt is raised so that'its; lower end clears the top of the armBO, the box may be swung into any of said positions.
While we have described our invention as taking a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts of our invention may be changed without departing from the spirit thereofland' hence we do not limit ourselves to the precise construction set 'forth, but consider that we are at liberty to make changes and alterations as fairly Lessors come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is I 1. The combination with a building, having a wall and a window in the wall, of a box having an opening, a pivotal mounting for the box whereby it may be swung to face the window or to tacethe wall, and'a pivoted arm adapted to hold the box in the same horizontal plane, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a building, having a wall and a window in the wall, of a box having an opening, a support pivotally connected with the wall and the box, an
auxiliary support, pivotally connected with the wall and the box and parallel with the first named support, whereby the box will-be maintained in the same horizontal plane and may he swung to face the window or to face the wall, substantially as described.
3. The combination with a building having a wall and a window in line with said wall, of a device including a box having an opening; a support pivotally connected to said building and including an arm pivotally connecting and supporting said box; an auxiliary support having a portion. pivotally connected to said box and an arm leading from said portion and pivotally connected to said building whereby the box may swing on said supports with its opening in registry with said window into a position directly in front of said wall; and a bolt on said box, adapted to be moved into a position between said arms, whereby the pivotal movement of said box is prevented; sub stantially as described. I
l. The combination with a building hav ing a wall and a window in line with said wall, of a device including a box having an opening; a bearing on saidbox; a yoked supporting member having an upright rod portion and arms leading from said portion and pivotally supported on said building; and an auxiliary support pivotally connected to said box and having anarm extending substantially parallel to said first arms, said.
auxiliary arm also being pivotally connected to said building whereby the box may be swung from a position parallel with the wall with its opening opposed thereto into a position in which the opening will register with said window; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. r
