POLISHING-r CUMIPDSETION.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES RIGNEY, residing at Anniston, county of Calhoun, State of Alabama (whose post-office address is General Delivery, Anniston, Alabama), citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Polishing Compositions, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved polishing compound for surfaces of wood or metal which is adapted for freshening or refinishing surfaces which have previously been varnished or coated with other finishing material, and is particularly adapted for use in refinishing automobile bodies.
My composition consists of the following ingredients combined in substantially the proportions stated, viz:
High grade spar varnish pint. High grade floor varnish 1 pt. Japan drier 9; pint. Synthetic oil of Wintergreen 1 oz. Gasoline a little less than 3 qts.
Both the spar varnish and the floor varnish used should be high grade varnishes made from pure gums (resins) boiled in linseed oil with litharge and salts of manganese to promote drying and with turpentine as thinner. The spar varnish used should have the Weather resisting qualities characteristic of high grade varnish known in the trade under that name and the floor varnish should also be high grade varnish having the water proof and wear resisting qualities characteristic of varnishes known in the trade as floor varnishes.
The varnish, Japan drier and oil of witergreen should be thoroughly mixed and Application filed May 29, 1922. Serial No. 564,572.
the gasoline then added and thoroughly mixed with this mixture. The polish is then ready to be bottled for' use.
The compound should be applied by wett ng a pad of soft cloth with the composition and drawing it lightly over the surface to be polished without rubbing. The
thinner and having the characteristics of spar varnish, a varnish formed of resin, linseed oil and a dryer with turpentine as a thinner and having the characteristics of floor varnish, Japan dryer, Wintergreen oil and gasoline.
2. A gloss or polishing composition for Wood or metal surfaces consisting of the combination of a varnish formed of resin. linseed oil and a dryer with turpentine as a thinner and having the characteristics of spar varnish, a varnish formed of resin. linseed oil and, a dryer with turpentine as a thinner and having the characteristics of floor varnish, Japan dryer, Wintergreen oil and gasoline in the following proportions. one-half pint of spar varnish, one pint of the floor varnish, one half pin Japan dryer, one oz. synthetic oil of Wintergreen, and about three quarts of gasoline.
in testimony whereof ll hereunto afiix my signature.
J AMES RIGNEY.
