APPARATUS FOR ROASTING AND BROILING BY GAS.
Specification 'of Letters Patent N 0. 14,437, dated March 18, 1856.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JAMES B. BLAKE, of lVorcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Apparatus for Roasting and Broiling by Means of Gas, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a lan. Fig. 2 a front view.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to clescribe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In the accompanying drawings A is the pipe through which the gas is admitted to the roaster; this pipe communicates by means of branches with the sockets B, B, in which revolve the vertical pipes C, to which the gas is freely admitted through openings a.
D are branch pipes which communicate with the vertical pipes C, and which are perforated with the holes or burners 0. WVhen to be used as a roaster these burners are lighted and the branch pipes D are set in the position seen in black in Figs. 1 and 2,
a tin kitchen containing the meats to be cooked being hung in front of it. WVhen it is required to be used for the purpose of broiling, the pipes D are thrown into the position seen in red, and the article to be broiled is suspended between them.
This utensil is thus instantaneously convertible into either a roaster or a broiler, and is equally efficient as either. When used as a broiler it is to be covered with a tin case within which the steak or other article is suspended and which concentrates and confines the heat; when employed as a roaster the tin kitchen effectually accomplishes the same end.
WVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The within described roaster and broiler, constructed and operating in the manner substantially as herein set forth.
