To all to 7mm it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN h lazooii, a citizen of the United i itates, residing at Weimar, in the county of Colorado and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Adjustable and Collapsible Table; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improved table which is both adjustable and collapsible, the same being especially, but not neces sarily, designed for use in a hospital or sick room and being extremely desirable for such purposes in that it is capable of being collapsed and arranged in a compact condition to be stored in a small space when not in use.

The principal object of the invention is to generally improve upon tables of this class by providing one of comparatively simplic- .ity and durability, the same being properly designed for the purpose specified and embodying novel adjustable legs having associated therewith, unique bracing means which serves to render the foldablc legs sufficiently rigid to provide a strong support.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:

Figure 1 is a. perspective view of the improved table set up for use.

Figure 2 is a vertical section taken substantially on the plane of the line 2-2 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a detail section taken on the line 33 of Figure 1.

The numeral 1 designates the table top which has a. depending skirt 2. The top has associated with it, a. sliding shelf 3 and a drawer 4 which are slidably mounted on the supporting boards 5 secured to the under side of the top as seen better in Figure 2. It is to be noted that these boards 5 are spaced inwardly from the parallel boards of the aforesaid skirt to permit the upper leg sections 6 to be folded into this space. These leg sections are pivotally or otherwise hingedly connected to the table top as indicated at 7 and they are of a length to permit them to be folded between the front and rear 1922. thereto. These couplings 8 serve to permit use of comparatively short extensions 9 which telescope to the upper end of the hollow or lower leg sections 10. The couplings also serve to act in conjunction with novel bracing means to be hereinafter described. it may be conveniently stated here that the extensions 9 are formed with two or more circumferential grooves 11 into which the inner ends of the set-screws 12 extend. This insures against slippage of the extensions after theset-screws are properly adjusted to dispose the table top at the proper or desired elevation. hen the table is collapsed, the couplings 8 and the extensions 9 are.dis connected from the leg sections 6, to permit folding of the latter. Casters .13 are connected with the lower ends of the tubes 10 to facilitate movement of the table. These casters are, of course removable so as to permit the table to be rendered stationary. It is to be noted that the lower ends of the tube 10 are split to provide a plurality. of fingers 14 and these are bent at right angles to the body portion to form feet which are designed. to rest on the floor when the casters are removed.

To maintain the supporting legs in operative position, novel bracing means is employed and although this means could be of some other construction, it preferably comprises a coupling 15. to which the inner ends of a plurality of radial rods 16 are connected. This coupling 15 is formed with screwthreaded sockets: to accommodate the adjacent screwthreaded ends of the rods. The opposite ends of these rods are also screw threaded and these ends are engaged with the lateral screw-threaded extensions of the aforesaid couplings S. For the purpose of enabling the rods 16 to be rotated, handles 17 are provided. It is of course understood that the screw-threads on one end of each rod 16 are lefthanded while on toe other hand they are right-handed and the cou plings are threaded to properly co-act therewith.

Assuming that the table is set up for use as shown in Figure 1, and it is desirable to collapse it to render it compact so that it can be stored in a comparatively small space, the bracing means is first removed by grasping the several handles 1.7 and rotating the rods 16 in the proper direction. to disengage them from the couplings 8 and 15. Either before or after the bracing is removed the extensions 9 and tubular leg sections 10 are detached from the upper leg sections 6. if the bracing means has already been removed the couplingsS are then detached from these leg sections 6 and they are folded into the space between the boards 5 and the parallel boards of the aforesaid skirt 2. in actual practice the drawer 4: will be of a size to permit the several detachable leg sect-ions, couplings, and extensions to he placed therein to prevent them trom being misplaced and to render them readily accessible for further use. This method of disassembling is not controlling and the T-coupling and extension need not be detached it the table top is made sufificiently large to accommodate them when the table is collapsed.

By carefully considering the description in connection with the drawings, persons a miliar with devices of this class will doubtless be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention. Therefore, a more lengthy and detailed description is deemed unnecessary.

Since probably the best results may be obtained with the construction and arrange ment herein shown and described, this is taken as the preferred embodiment of the invention. However, I wish it to be understood that minor changes coming within the scope of the invention as claimed may be resorted to if desired.

I claim:

A collapsible and adjustable table comprising a top, vertically extensible legs, each including an upper section pivotally connected with the top, a T-shaped coupling connected with the lower end of saidsection, an extension connected with said coupling and telescoping into the lower leg section, and bracing means for maintaining said legs in operative position comprising a plurality of radial rods serew-threaded at their oppo site ends the outer ends of said rods being designed for connection with said T-couplings, and a unitary coupling to which the inner ends of all of said rods are connected.
