` oOMnINnio AtovnisfrIsINe.V AND DISPLAYING FIXTURE.
Application' filed September 12, 1918. Serial No. 253,729.
"To all whom t muy concern Be it' known that I, BENJAMIN'ALEXAN- hun', af citizen' of they United States, and a resident of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, and State of Chio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Advertis in and Displaying Fixtures, of -which the fo lowing is a specification, the principle of the' yinvention being herein explained and the'best mode in whichv I have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it from other inventions.
The present invention relates to a knockdown type of stand for use in displaying and advertising articles of merchandise for sale. The stand is so constructed that it can readily be taken apart and packed for shipment, and quickly and easily be put together again when desired without the use of tools. Provision is made for holding advertising cards, and these may easily be changed and new cards inserted as desired. To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, said invention, then, consists of the means hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The annexed drawing and the following description set forth in detail certain mechanism embodying the invention, such disclosed means constituting, however, but one of various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be used.
In said annexed drawings Fig. l is a perspective view of the device assembled; Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2, Fig. l, showing the method of construction; Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3--3, Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a detail view of the construction of the base member.
As illustrated, the device is a stand having two feet or base members l, having hollow bosses 2 at their center portions, each boss having a flange 7 at the lower end and having two tapped horizontal apertures 3 and et, the lower aperture 3 being adapted to receive the threaded ends of a tie rod 5. and the upper aperture 4: receivingset screw 30. Into the hollow bosses are inserted two uprights 8, the uprights being preferably hollow rods., the ends 9 resting on the flanges 7 and being iirmly held in the bosses by means of the set screws 30.
The rods 8 are threaded at their upper ends, and internally threaded caps 3l are secured thereto. These caps are of the form carra card holder 1G.
Wyithin flanges l0 at their sides to receive a crossbar yor rod Il, which will preferably be pressed or brazed into place. Abovethe rods, the vcaps have an extending portion vbest shown in Fig. 2, and have extending which widens-cut as shown in Fig. 3, to form circular bearing members l2, having two spaced straps 13 connecting the same. rbove the upper vbearing member `the caps terminate in short slabs le, one being tapped to receive a rod 15, which is adapted to the circular members 'l2 are mounted two tubes 17 and 18, these tubes having slits I9 and 20, the slits facing each other and being adapted to receive the edges of a display card 2l bearing advertising or descriptive matter.
The card holder 16 is composed of a horizontal strip 22, riveted or otherwise secured to the flattened end 23 of the rod l5. At the outer ends there are attached double spring clips 24, between which the card 25 is held. 'Ihese clips hold the card in place, and the holder and rod l5 may be removed from the cap or turned at various angles.
Upon the crossbar Il, garment hangers 26 are adapted to be hung, while the cards 2l and 25 will carry appropriate advertising and descriptive matter, referring to the garment or to the line of goods as a whole, or to the store.
It will be seen that the device may be readily taken apart and packed for shi 3* ment, and as easily assembled. rIhe only tool necessary is a screw driver for forcing the set screws into engagement with the uprights.
IN hen taken apart the stand consists of the feet l, the tie rod 6, the uprights 8, the card rack, comprising the caps, the two split rods and the crossbar ll, and the card holder. rIhese parts, together with the necessary garment hangers 26, can be easily and quickly packed in a small box and readily and quickly assembled at the desired point. The advertising cards will be changed at intervals and the display of garments will be varied or the garments replaced as they are sold.
Other modes of applying the principle of my invention may be employed instead of the one explained, change being made as regards the mechanism herein disclosed, provided the means stated by any of the folloWing claims or the equivalent of such 2. In an advertising fixture adapted to be 20 stated means be employed.
I therefore particularly point out and distinctly claim as my invention l. In an advertising fixture adapted to be readily disassembled, the combination of a pair of light metal tubular uprights and a rigid metal frame member adapted to be seated upon the upper ends of said uprights to provide a support for an advertising card, said frame member comprising a pair of socketed and slotted cap members, and a plurality of tubular metal cross-bars, two of said cross-bars being provided With oppositely directed slots each communicating With the slots in said cap members and providing means for the reception of a sheetlike member adapted to bear advertising indicia.
readily disassembled, the combination of base members, light metal tubular uprights adapted to be removably mount-ed in said base members, a removable tie rod connecting said base members, a rigid frame comprising tWo cap members and two tie members removably attached to the upper ends of said uprights, thetie members comprising slotted elements having their slotted sides facing one another, slots in said cap members covering the vertical distancebetween saidvslotsl in the tie members, and a long sheet-like member ada ted tol have its edges engaged in said. slots, t i e sides of said sheetlike member being adapted to carry advertising matter.
,Signed byme,
