Be it known that We, LOUIS Oman. and

residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Watches; and we do hereby declare-the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the Characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in-

Our invention relates to an improvement in watch-movements, the obj ectbeing to provide simple, reliable, convenient and accurate means for securing bridges to the plates thereof at the minimum outlay for time and labor.
With these ends in view, our invention consists in certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In carrying outour invention, as herein shown, the front movement-plate. 10 is formed at one side of its center with a large, circular clearance-opening 11, designed, in the present instance, to provide clearance for the'third wheel, not shown, of the movementtrain. Near the edges of the said clearanceopening 11 and at diametrically opposite points, the said plate 10 is struck from rear to front, between punches 12, with slightly tapered ends, and dies 13, to form-two integral, cylindrical rivets 14, parallel with each 1922. as at 19, and formed with perforations 20 adapted in diameter to snugly receive the rivets 14, which are made long enough to' be headed down, orotherwise swaged, upon the outer faces of the ends 19 of the bridge, as shown in Fig. 3, in Which the ends of the rivets have a conical depression 21 produced by the action of a spreading or swaging prick-point. The bridge as thus mounted is not only permanently but accurately secured in place, and with far more convenlence and ease and with the employment of less time than by the ordinary method ofemploying for the purpose small, independent rivets, which are diflicult to handle and position, and to maintain in position while being swaged.
- After the bridge has been secured in place, it is drilled as required for the. reception of the ends of the arbors for which it is designed to provide a bearing. As shown, it is formed with a central perforation 22 for a pinion of the third wheel and with a'perforation 23 for the reception of a'pinion of the fourth wheel.
We claim:
