"Be it known that 1, Jose M. Amuse, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Tampa, in the countybf Hillsborough and State of Florida,have invented a new and useful Fireplace Heater, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a heater designed primarily for use within open fireplaces, one of the objects of the invention being to pro vide a simple, durable and compact struc ture which can beset up readily within a fireplace and which delivers the products of combustion directly to the chimneybut provides an air chamber through which air i Which it was taken. 1 l

This door or panel can beprovided with draft openings 17 and a damper 18 canbeslidably mounted on the back face of the door. or-panel. This damper isupreferably provided with a knob 19 slidable in aslotQO. The door or panel. 1 6 is placed in position by lowering the arms 15 into engagement with the brackets. By shifting the damper 18the draft through the heater can be regulated.

Holding ears 25 are extended from the outer edges of the flanges 8 and are supported in substantially the same plane with the wall 9. These ears are adapted to be detaehably engaged by" downwardly extending brackets 26 extending backwardly from the side portions of a foraminous' panel 27 adapted to fit between the flanges 8 and against the ears The panel is slightly shorter than the distance between the bottom of the heater and the top flange 8, as shown in Figure Thus it will,be apparent that the panel 27 can be slid upwardly to disengage brackets 26 from cars 25 and allow the removal thereof from the heater in orderto give access to the doors 21 and 16.
The inner casing of the heater is adapted to be partly housed within an outer casing 28 which is closed at the sides, back and top and has an opening 29 in its top to receive the thimble 6. The wall 9 forms the front of the casing 28. An air chamber 30 is provided between the inner and outer casings, this chamber communicating with the external atmosphere through the foraminous portions or gratings 10 and 11.
Secured to the sides of the outer casing and extending inwardly so as to abut against the inner casing l are baffles 31 which are extended rearwardly from the front portion of the outer casing and are extended upwardly short distances between the sides of the inner and outer casing as shown at 39. The front ends of these bafiies are adapted to contact with the solid portions of the wall 9 between the lower gratings or foraminous portions 11 and; the water containers l2.
For the purpose of holding the casing 28 firmly in position relative to the inner easing, a bottom plate 38 is preferably extended inwardly from the back wall of the outer casing and under the bottom of the inner casing.
It is to be understood that after the parts of the structure have been properly assembled, the entire structure can be moved back into an open fireplace so that the hot products of combustion will flow from the thimble 6 into the chimney flue; By re moving panel 27 the door 21 can be opened and a lire can be built on the lire pot 23. The door can then be closed, the damper lb regulated, and the screen panel 2? replaced. The hot products of combustion will heat the inner casing to a high temperature and the air contained within the chamber 50 will thus be heated and flow upwardly around the bal'lles 31 and their extensions 32. The circulation thus set up will cause cold air to flow from the room being heated, through the gratings or foraminous portions 1.1. into chamber 30, and thence upwardly and outwardly through the grating ll). l ly placing water within the holders [:3 moisture will be supplied to the air being healed.

It has been found in practice that a strut ture such as described is advantageous be cause of its simplirity, the ease with \Yhh'h it can be installed and its ellicieiuty as a heating medium.
What is claimed is A heater for open fireplaces comprising an outer casing having a front all formed with an opening, said all having foraminous portions adjacent the lower portions of the sides of the opening and a 'lorznninous portion extendingtransversely of the top of the wall, an inner casing wil'l'lin the outer casing and spaced therefrom, said inner rasing having a smoke outlet, flanges extending inwardly from the edges of the opening in the front wall of the outer HSHlgI and secured to the front wall of the inne casing, a 'l'oraininous closure insert ible down-- wardly within the opening in the front wall, cooperating means upon the closure and the flanges and back of the closure so as in be conceah-ld thereby, for holding the closure in position when moved downwardly within the opening, bullies extending lnlelnvardly from the front wall of the outer easing and between the side walls of the inner and outer casing, said bullies having their rear ends extended upwardly and being;- lomted above the foraminous 1,)U'llilflll5 at oppordiisides of the opening in the front wall.
