Description

I. KEYZER.
FLOOR SET.
APPLICATION FILED 0Ec.21, 1921.
Patented 0012. W, 1922..
Patented that, Ml,
i innate JOHN KEYZER, 015' 'WEST ALLIS, WISCONSIN.
recon sn'r.
Application filed December 21, 1921.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that l[, J QI-IN Knvznn, a citl- [sen of the United States, residing at West ing a body member having a groove Allis, in the county of a the flooring and tongue in such the body and the other end of the e an extension disposedin alignment with the isconsin, have invented a new and useful 1 Floor Set; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
The invention relates to floor sets and has for its object to provide a floor set compristherein for the reception of the tongue of a piece of flooring and adapted to engage the side of a manner that the flooring may be forced into close engagement with the adjacent piece of flooring so that it may be nailed into place. Also to provide the body member with a handle memben extending upwardly and adapted to be grasped by the operator and with an extension disposed opposite the grolove adapted to be engaged by a hammer ol p A further object is to provide one end of member with an integral nail set body member with nail set, and adapted to be engaged by a hammer, thereby allowing the operator, durmg a floor laying operation to not only set the flooring, but also to set the flooring nails.
With the above andother objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope ofwhat is claimed without of the invention,
In the drawinglligure 1 is a side elevation of the floor set showing the same in engagement with the side of a plece of flooring. I Figure 2 1s a horizontal sectional view.
taken online 2-2of Figure 1, part of the body portion of the setbeing to show the tongue receiving groove.
Figure 3 1s a side elevation of the device showing the same in position for use as a nail set.
Referring 1 designates shaped tool to the drawings, the numeral the substantially rectangularly head, one of the longitudinal Milwaukee, State of departing from the spirit mer poll in parallel relation to broken away Serial No. 523,900.
sides of which is provided with a groove 2 wh ch is adapted to receive the tongue 3 of a piece of flooring 4 as shown in Figure 1, which piece of flooring 4 is then forced into close; engagement with an adjacent piece of flooring by percussive blows on the projection 5 by means of a hammer poll 6. The pro ection. 5 is disposed on the opposite side of the member 1. Extending upwardly from the member 1 is a handle 7, which handle is adapted to be grasped by the operator during a floor laying operation. Dur ing a floor laying operation it is not only necessary to force the fiooringboards 4 into engagement with the adjacent flooring board but also necessary to secure the boards to joist by means of nails, which nails may either bedriven throughthe boards themselves from their upper surfaces or driven angularly through the edge of the boards from adjacent the upper side of the tongue 3. To facilitate this operation the rectangular shaped member 1 is provided with a nail set projection 8 extending out from the end 9-0f the member 1, and which is adapted to be placed in engagement with the nail 10 for setting the same after it has been driven into the board by means of the hammer. The end ll of the memberl is provided with a hammer engaging head 12 which is in alignment with the nail set proection 8 and adapted to be engaged by a hammer during a nail setting operation.
From the above it will be seen that not only a floor set is provided, but also in combination with said set, a nail set, and the device may be kept carpenter where it can be easily reached for setting the board or forsetting a nail.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is: v
The combination with a combined floor set andnail set, said floor set having a tongue receiving groove, said nail set having a ham the groove, one side of said hammer poll registering with the bottom of the floor set groove and forming an extension thereof.
In testimony whereof I have signed my 1 name to this specification in the presence of witnesses.
