IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON-BALE TIES.
Speeification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 143,124, dated Sept mber 23, 1873; application filed Ju1y 31, 1873.
forth the nature and prineiples 0f the invention, by whieh the same may be distinguished frorn others of a similar elass, togethenwith such parts thereof as are elaimed as new and are desired t0 be seeured by Letters Patent of the United States.
My invention relates to that dass of ties whieh are made use 0f for fastening together the metallie bands er hoops around bales of cot-ton and the nature thereof consists in 0ertain improvements in the construetion 0f the sa1ne and novel arrangement of parts hereinafter described.
In the aeeompanying drawing, whieh illustrates my invention and forms a part 0f the speeifieation thereof, Figure 1 is a perspeetive view 0f bhe tie. Fig. 2 is a top view of the tie applied t0 the ends 0f the band. Fig. 3 is a side view thereof.
The construetion and operati on 0f my invent-i0n are as follows: In the drawing referred to, A designates a rectangular oblong pieee of metal, having 011 each side thereof the projee tions a a, the distance between whieh is just enough to admit 0f the easy introduetion of the narrowest parts 0f the band. The said projeetions are provided With slots b, of such a size and shape as o0 adtnit and hold the beveled 01' rounded edges formed upon the straps D by cutting thereon the series of indentations O.
The applieation 0f the device is very simple. One 0f the narrow parts of the band having been introdueed between the projections a, the expansive f0rce developed by the eflasticiy 0f the eottonbale draws ehe rounded edges within the slots b, and eauses the band to be tightly held.
Having thus deseribed the construetion 0f my invention, I elaim and desire 110 seeure by Letters Patent- The plate A, provided with slotted projeetions a, when eombined, as described, witl1 the indented band.
