HAIRIPIN.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AARON WENGER. a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Hairpin, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to an improvement in hair pins and contemplates a pin constructed to provide a multiplicity of hair receiving spaces having restricted entrance openings which when engaged with the hair will be held in place against accidental displacement.

As a further object the invention contemplates an improved hair pin which is so constructed as to prevent pulling of the hair upon removal of the same therefrom or injury to the scalp.

As a still further object the invention aims to produce a hair pin which can be economically manufactured, which is thoroughly reliable and highly efficient in its purpose. and which is extremely simple in its construction.

With the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the ap- 80 pended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are eX- pressed.

In the drawing- Figure 1 is a front view of a hair pin constructed in accordance with the invention.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the hair pin is constructed from a single length of wire or other suitable material, bent upon itself to provide a pair of legs 10, each having a centrally bulged portion 11 and a superposed outwardly bulged portion 12, defining hair receiving spaces 13 and 1 1. At the juncture of the bulged portions 11 and 12, inwardly directed projections 15 are formed which define a restricted communicating passage 16 between the hair receiving spaces 13 and 14.

The opposite end of the bulged portions 11 termlnate in free forwardly projecting terminals 17 having circumferential tips 18 to prevent injury to the scalp during the application of the hair pin to the head. The head or connecting portion of the material or wire at the opposite end of the hair pin, is formed into laterally and forwardly directed legs 19, which are doubled upon themselves and preferably intertwisted at their base or juncture with the rear end of the bulged portion12 as at 20. The free terminals of the arms 19 are slightly spaced from the bulged portion 11 of the legs to provide hair receiving spaces 21 having restricted entering mouths 22.

By this construction the probability of accidental displacement of the hair pin is reduced to a minimum, while at the same time the application or removal of the pin is not interfered with nor catching or pulling of the hair by the pin possible. Furthermore the spherical tips act as a precaution against and prevention of injury to the scalp.

I claim:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a hair pin constructed of a single length of ma terial bent to provide a pair of legs each having an outwardly bulged medial portion defining a hair receiving space with a restricted hair entering and removing mouth at its forward end a connection therebetween at one end, said connection bent to provide a pair of laterally and forwardly directed arms terminating adjacent the bulged portion of the legs to provide a hair receiving and embracing space at the opposite sides thereof having restricted entering mouths at their forward ends.
