To all whom, it may concern Beit known that I, EDWARD M. SOLIAI-I, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hatton, in the county of Traill and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Supporting Clamps, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to a clamp, and more particularly to the class of adjustable foldable door supporting clamps.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a clamp or device of this character, wherein a door or the like can be firmly held for the planing of doors for buildings, prior to the hanging of said doors thereby rendering the said clamp or device useful to carpenters.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a clamp or device of this character, wherein the same can be readily adjusted to properly support a door, irrespective of its size and when not in use can be readily and easily folded to occupy atleast possible space or be carried in an ordinary carpenters tool chest.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a clamp of this character, wherein the same when set up for use will not mar the floor or foundation upon which the same may stand nor the door held therein, the device or clamp being novel in form, extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in purpose, and inexpensive to manufacture.

With these and other objects in View the invention consists in the feature of construction combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Figure 3 is an elevation showing the clamp folded when not in use.

The clamp comprises a pair of base bars 5 and 6, respectively, connected at their inner end through the medium of a pintle hinge 7 for permitting the folding and extending thereof. I

Mounted on the bar 6 contiguous to the pintle hinge at its under side is a swinging bridge member 8 which is adapted to be swung to the position shown in Figure 1 of the drawing beneath the pintle hinge 7 when the bars 5 and 6 are extended so as to avoid sagging of the clamp at its hinged joint between said bars. The bridge member 8 has fitted thereon rubber feet 9 and likewise the bars 5 and 6 are fitted with rubber feet 10 to prevent the marring or damaging of a foundation or flooring when the clamp is set up for use.

Superimposed upon the bar 5 is an adjustable section or slide 11 having downturned nib 12 at its outer end for engaging in anyone of a series of slots 13 formed in the bar 5 while passed through the latter and engaged in the slot 14 in the slide 11 is a securing member 15 including a bolt and nut and in this manner the section or slide 11 can be adjusted and made fast.

Hinged to the bar 6 and to the section or slide 11 are opposed clamping jaws 16 having fitted thereto at their inner sides rubber abutments 17 for contact with a door A when engaged between the jaws 16 for the clamping of said door as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing.

Formed on the bar 6 and slide 11 intermediate the ends thereof are upstanding cars 18 to which are pivoted break-jointed braces 19 the same being also pivoted to ears 20 formed on or secured to the jaws 16 and these braces when thrown to the position shown at Figure 1 act upon the jaws 16 for the clamping of the door A there between. The upper sections of the braces 19 are formed with finger engaging tongues 21 so that said clamps can be broken and permitted to move to the position shown in Figure 3 of the drawing when the clamp is folded into compact form when not in use.
