To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS LA MAIDA, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Jock Strap, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.

This invention relates to a class of devices adapted to be worn by men.

My invention has for its object primarily to provide a device or jock strap designed to be employed by men for supporting parts in their normal position to prevent undue strain thereof especially when the wearer is undergoing physical exercise, and which is of a form whereby the necessity for removal of the device is obviated, in order to obtain access to the parts as well as being of a form that will not tend to wrinkle or crumple in the crease at the back of the wearer. The invention also contemplates the making of a jock strap of flexible material, such as cloth, which is free from rubher or the like so that it may be kept in a clean sanitary condition by washing. The invention consists essentially of a pocket element for receiving the parts of the wearer, and extending from part of the edge of the pocket element is a flap be detachably fastened to the front part of a belt when worn on the waist. ing from the edge of the pocket element adiacent to the flap'member is a tab member also adapted to be detachably fastened to the belt so that'it may be separated from the belt to provide access to'the pocket with out detaching the flap from the belt. the pocket element opposite to; the flap and tab members is a band having in its central part a pocket, and the free end part of the band is adapted to be detaehably fastened to the back of the belt, while the pocket of the band is a removable'flex-ible stay to prevent tendency of the band to wrinkle or crumple in the back crease of the wearer.

A further object of the invention is to provide a jock strap of a simple, efficient and durable construction which may be made in any suitable size and shape.

which the band 15 is removably attached by providing in the free end of the band a like number of spaced holes, as 20, to allow the band to be buttoned to the belt 17. On the lower edge of the front of the belt 17 may be also a number of spaced buttons, as 21 and 22, and in the free end of the flap member 11 may be spaced holes, as 23, to allow the flap member to be detachably fastened to the belt by being buttoned to the buttons 21, while in the tab member 13 may be a single hole, as 24, to permit the tab member to be buttoned to the button 22 of the belt. The tab member 13 may thus be detached from the belt 17 independently of the flap member 11 to permit access to be obtained to the pocket element 10 whenthe belt is worn by a' person, though obviously the flap member may also be detached from the belt, as occasion requires.

In one of the faces centrally of the band 15 of the device is a pocket 25 which extends lengthwise of the band and the en trance 26 to this pocket is in opposed relation to the free end of the band. In the band at its entrance 26 may be a recess 27 communicating with the pocket 25, and in this pocket is removably inserted a sta as 28, Figs. 5, 6, 7,. 8. This stay may be made of a thin sheet of celluloid, hard rubber or other suitable material which is suitably flexible while being sufiiciently stiff to prevent the belt from wrinkling or. crumpling at the pocket which when worn is positioned over the back crease ofthe wearer. The stay is of a size so that one of its ends may be inserted, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, in the recess 27 to prevent the stay from accidental displacement when arranged in the pocket 25, and if desired the stay may be perforated, as at 29, with two of its edges being covered with bindings, as 30 and 31, of fiannel or other cloth or the like to prevent the stay from tendency to slip back and forth in the pocket as well as serving to prevent the stay from cracking when the wearer of the device is undergoing physical exercise.

In the foregoing description, I have embodied the preferred form of my invention,

but I do not wish to be unoersto'od as limiting myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, therefore, I reserve to myself the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope thereof.

Having thus described my invention, claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A jock strap, comprising a pocket element having, extending from part of its edge an approximately Y shaped flap memher and tab member, both being adapted to be detachably fastened to a belt, a band pro-' truding from a portion of the pocket oppositeto the flap and tab members for being removably attached to the back of the belt and the band having in its central part a pocket, and a removable perforated flexible stay in the pocket of the band to prevent the band from wrinkling.

2. A jock strap, comprising a pocket element having extending from part of its edge a flap member adapted to be detachably fastened to a belt, a tab member also protruding from the pocket element adjacent to the flap member, said tab member being adapted tobe detachably fastened to the belt, a band protruding from a portion of the pocket opposite to the flap and tab members for being removably attached to the back of the belt and the band having in its central part a pocket, and a removable perforated flexible stay in the pocket of the band to prevent the band from wrinkling.

8. A jock strap, comprising a pocket ele-' ment having extending from part of its edge a flap member adapted to be detachably fastened to a belt, a tab member also protruding from the pocket element adjacent to the flap member, said tab member being adapted to be detachably fastened to the belt,

a band protruding from a portion of the pocket opposite to the flap and tab members for being removably attached to the back of the belt and the band having in its central part a pocket, a removable perforated flexible stay in the pocket of the band to prevent the band from wrinkling, and a belt to which the flap member, tab member.
