CHRISTIAN SELISIN 1K, OF CLEVELAHEJ, OHIO.
FLAG- HOLD ER.
AppIication filed June 20,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Crrnrs'rmra' Tinnrsnrn, a citizen of Jugo-Slavia, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful improvements in F lag Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in flag holders and relates more particularly to the provision of a balanced figure in fixed relation to a flagcarrying staff or pole and mounted for rocking movement whereby the figure and flag stafl may oscillate for an extended period upon receiving an initial impulse so as to simulate the operation. of a person waving a flag.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a device of the above kind which will be of extremely simple construction and which may be adapted to serve as an ornament in the nature of a pedestal or the like.
Another objectof the invention is to provide a simplified and improved form of balanced flag-waving toy.
Still another object of the invention is to provide the flag staff in adjustable sections whereby the center of gravity of the oscillating parts may be varied to accommodate changes in the levelness of the support for the device so as to secure as nearly a perfect balance and extended period of oscillation at all times.
lVith these general objects in view and others than will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in, the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this application, and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure l is a view partly in loi'igitudinal section and partly in side elevation of a flagwaving toy constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary front elevational view of the device shown in Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary elevational: view of the flag staff.
Referring more in detail to the several Specification of Letters Patent.

views, the invention preferably embodies a pair of spaced ornamental u 'iright Pllittliz or posts 5 rigidly connecteo in ac relation b y me ns of a platform 6 ii: their upper i and a base 7 similar in the platform 6 and secured to the lower 'l'he pl cform G is V posts extent i a transverse d and is further o k :0 ,ed with a r ised p r-- tion 8 provided with sockets 9 at the rear end of the slot 7. A. human figure it) lined upon a supporting plate 11 is provided with outstretched arms 12 rigidly secured to a normally inclined flag staff 325, and the pla e 11 is provided with a pair oi dependin 14 which rest in the sockets 9 to pernn V. ward and backward rocki movement of the figure and the flag staff, the latter being loosely projected downy. through the slot 7 as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2 with the lower end of the flag staff rearv "'ly of said figure. The flag staff composed pret eraloly of telescopically-associated upper and lower sections 15 and 16 respectively with the lower section 16 engaging in a recess orovided in the front edge of the plate 11 and slidable relative to the latter and relative to the upper ion 15 adjusting the length of the staff and correspondingly changing the center of gravity of the rocking adjusted to align with the pin 18. The up-' per section 15 of the flag staff carries any suitable form of flag or banner 20 In operation, the figure 10 is given a manual impulse either forwardly or backwardly so as to cause rocking of the same upon the pins 1 1 resting in the sockets 9, thus causing movement of the flag stat with the fig ure, which movement continues for an 6X- tended period and the act of a person wavinga flag is thereby simulated.
It is obvious that it the present device is placed upon a vibratory support, the flagwaving action will take place without the manual impulse above referred to and the shown and described is What is believed to be the preferred embociment thereof it is nevertheless to be understood that various forms, modifications and arrangements of the parts may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as new is zl. A. flag Waving device of the class described comprising a platform having a transverse elongated slot, means for supporting said platform at an elevated position said platform being provided with a socket at one end of said slot, figure having a rigid depending pin rockingly engaging in said socket and supporting the figure upon the platform, a fiag staff in fixed relation to the figure extending through the transverse slot of the platform to points above and below the latter, said flag staff comprising a pair of telescopically-associated sections relatively movable for changing the length of the flag staff, and means to releasably retain the flag staff sections in adjusted relation.
2. A flag-Waving device of the class described comprising a platform havir a transverse elongated slot, means for s pporting said platform at an elevated position, said platform being provided with a socket at one end of said slot, a figure having a rigid depending pin rockingly engaging in. said socket and supporting the figure upon the platform, a flag staff in fixed relation to the figure extending through the transverse slot of the platform to points above and below the latter, said flag staff comprising a pair of telescopically-associated sections relatively movable for changing the length of the flag staff, means to releasably retain the flag staff sections in adjusted relation, the last-named means com prising a catch carried by the outer flag stall section and extending through the same, the inner flag staff section being provided with a longitudinal series of sockets selectively engageable by said catch.
3. A balanced flag-Waving toy comprising pair of upright posts arranged in spaced relation, a platform rigidly connecting the upper ends of said posts and provided with a central transverse elongated slot, said platform being provided With a pair of sockets in its upper surface at one endof said slot, a human figure having pins rigid therewith and projecting downwardly fromthe feet portions of the same so as to rockingly rest in said sockets, an inclined flag staff project ing through said slot, said figure having outstretched arms fixedly attached to said flag staff said flag staff including relatively movable sections for permitting adjustment of the flag staff inlength and including an upper section to which the outstretched arms of the figure are fixed and a lower section resting against a member of the figure and slidable relatively to the same.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
