Description

F. H. WEAVER. FORM FOR CONCRETE PIPES.
APPLICATION FILED JULYIZ, 1921.
Patefited July 18, m2.
. mart FREDERICK H. "WEAVER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FORM FOR concnn'rn rrrns.
Application filed July l2,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, FREDERICK I-I. IVEAVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Forms for Concrete Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in a device for forming reinforced concrete pipes and has a special reference to a formation of a bell and spigot ends of said pipe.
A further object of my invention is to' provide a form with reinforced rings for the forming of the bell andspigot ends and which can be readily moved from the pipe after they have become set without danger of breakage either to the pipe or to the said rings.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing,
- Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of the complete form, the base of which is partly broken away.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification in which I like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates a base which is provided with an annular shoulder 2 on its outer edge, and a tapered portion 3 .which latter is provided with a central aperture 4. The outer casing 5 of the form rests on the base 1 and against.
the shoulder 2 and the inner casing 6-rests on the upper edge of the tapered portion 3 and is held in position by the tapered pins 7 which project through the apertures 8 in the base 1. The said pins 7 being forced through the apertures 8 from the bottom and being tapered can be readily driven downwardly by a suitable tool when it is desired to remove same in order to remove the inner casing 6. The tapered portion 3 of the base 1 is provided with two split spring-rings 9 which are held together in their relative position by the webs 10. The said split spring-rings 9 are normally contracted and when forced over the tapered portion 3 expand until they are forced down against the pins 11 when the ends properly overlap Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 18, 1922.
1921. Serial No. 484,037.
as shown in Fig. l. The pins 11 are tapered so that they can be withdrawn from the inside of the base 1. The split spring-rings 9 form the grooves in the bell end of the pipe which latter is formed by the concrete packed between the forms 5 and 6. After the concrete is packed between the forms 5 and 6 up to the upper edge of the outer form 5 the tapered cap 12 is fitted over the outer casing 5 and is held thereto by the shoulder 13. Within the cap 12 are two split springrings lt which are held in their proper rela tive position by the webs 15. The said split spring-rings 1e are normally extended and when forced into the cap 12 are caused to expand against the inner surface of the cap 12 to hold them in their proper position. The said split spring-rings 14 form the grooves in the spigot end of the pipe.
It will thus be seen that after the con crete is packed between the forms 5 and 6 and has thoroughly set, the cap 12 is removed which leaves the split spring-rings 14: in the concrete form of said pipe and a slight tap on said rings lt with a suitable tool to cause the ends to spring apart so that they can be readily removed. The pins 9 7 are driven'through the base 1 by a suitable tool which permits the inner casing 6 to be removed. The pipe is then turned down and after the pins 11 have been withdrawn the base 1 can be removed which leaves the split spring-rings 9 in the concrete pipe and a slight tap on said rings 9 will cause the ends of the latter to slip past each other into a contracted position so that it can be 2. A device for forming concrete pipes comprising a base having an annular shoulder on its outer edge and a tapered upwardly projecting portion, and two split spring-rings adapted to fit around said tapered portion of said base and held thereon by friction.
3. A device for forming concrete pipes wardly projecting tapered portion of said base and held thereon by friction, an outer casing resting ousaid base and against said shoulder, an inner casing resting upon the top of said tapered portion of said base, a cap fitted over the top of said outer casin and having an upwardly projecting tapered portion and two split spring-rings fitted on tlie inner surface of said cap and held thereon by friction. y
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
FREDERICK H. WVEAVER.
