BURNER FOR GAS STOVES.

the invention has for its object to provide a burner to be used preferably in connection with a. water back such as is disclosed in a concurrent application for patent, and a particular object of the invention is to provide a burner shaped to conform to the fora stack effect on the air passing between the burner and the water-back.
A further object of the invention is to provide for projecting some of the jets of flame from the burner in an angular direction so as to cause a swirling effectof the flame against thewater-back, and at the same time to provide for projecting some of the jets of flames vertically from the burner and to project others in the direction of each other to unite at a central point.
With these objects in view, theinvention consists of the novel construction of the burner, as will be first fully described and afterwards specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the burner.
Fig. 2 is a. vertical sectional view through the same. and
Fig. 3 is a'vertical sectional view through one arm of the burner taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Like-numerals of reference indicate the same parts throughout the several figures, in which:
.1 indicates the burner, which includes a flat to 2, pierced by a. central draft opening 3; an 4 indicates the radial burner arms, which as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, have their sides'5 inclined downwardly and outwardly, the bottoms 6 of the arms being horizontal as shown; the interior of the burner receiving gas from the main arm 9 in the usual manner.
As willappear from Figs. 1 and 2, the flat top 20f the burner is provided with a series series of perforations 3 drilled angularly with respect to the horizontal plane of the burner. It will further be seen from the drawing that the inclined sides 5 of the burner arms 4, are each provided with a series of perforations 4 drilled therein angularly with respect to the vertical axis of each burner arm.
' I prefer to supply the burner with suitable brackets 7 for removably supporting or hanging the same in operative position.
Having thus described the constructon of the burner, its operation is as follows:
The vertical perforations 2 in the flat top 2 cause the jets of flame to be projected in a vertical direction, while the annularly disposed series of perforations 3 cause the jets of flame to be projected to a. common central point above the central opening 3. .At the same time, the angularly disposed perforations 4 in the inclined sides 5 of the burner arms-4, cause: the jets of flame to be projected a-ngularly with respect to the arms 4: and causing-a swirling efl'ect against a waterback to effectively heat the same.
What I claim'as new and desire to secure by Letter Patent of the United States, is:
A burner for gas stoves, including a flat top portion pierced by a central draft-open ing, the said flat top portion being provided with a series of vertical perforations to project jets of flame vertically from the said flat top, the said top being also provided with a series of angularly arranged perforations disposed angularly with respect to the said top, to project jets of flame toward each other to a central point above the said central draft-opening, the said burner including a .series of burner arms having downwardly and outwardly inclined sides, and provided with a series of perforations disposed in said arms angularly with respect to the vertical axis of each arm, to project jets of flame from the burner in av swirling manner, substantially as described and for the purposes set forth.
