Application filed March 22, 1&22.
T 0 (ZZZ whom it may con cern- Be itlrnown that I, NATHANIEL HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Old Lyme, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Strawberry Hullers; and I do hereby declare the to llowing, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to he a "full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in
Fig. 1, a face view, partly in section, of a strawberry huller constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2, a side View of the same.
Fig. 3, a face view, partly in section, illustrating a modified form of my invention.
Fig. i, a side View of the same.
Fig. 5, a broken perspective View, showing the notched end of one or the jaws.
This invention relates to improvements in strawberry hullers, and particularly to the type which consists of two jaws adapted to be pressed together. In the more general construction of strawberry hullers, considerable pressure is required to bring the gripping edges of the jaws together, and, furthermore, they are sometimes liable to he come out of line, so as not to properly grip the hull. The object of this invention is to provide the gripping members with a hearing at their inner edges, whereby the gri ping edges will meet, and a light spring L a be employed so as to require but little sure. and the invention consists in the on truction as will be hereinafter described 2111C, particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention. I employ two gripping-jaws 5 and 6, preferably struck up from sheet-metal and longitudinally and transversely bowed. These are secured to the ends of a loop-like springhandle 7, and preferably the gripping-menu bers will be formed with integral projections Specification of Letters Patent.

8, extending through slots 9 formed in the springs over which the ends of the projections are upset, so as to firmly rivet the aws to the spring. Preferably, these jaws have rearwardly-extending arms 10, which are notched ne. r their ends, so as to be interlocked, and whereb a bearing is formed for the inner edges oi? the and where by, also, the are kept in ali that their outer ends will meet. Instead of "formingthe jaws with arms 10, as describwl, they may he in H a term of cups ll. as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, riyeted or otherwise secured to the ends 12 of a handle 13, and extending from the handle to a point between the inner edges of the aws is a plate 1, this plate and the two members ot the handle being firmly secured together by rivets 15. so that the jaws will held in proper relation to each other, and by proyiding; a bearing for the inner edges of the jaws, a light spring may be employed.
I claim:
1. sn'awberry huller coni n'ising a pair ws connected with a spririg-handle. and
illillfj tor the inner ends of said jaws.
A. strawberry huller comprising; a pair of jaws, a spring-handle. to the ends of which the jaws are respectively secured. said jaws formed with rear -.'ardl ,'-e:\itending arms which meet to form a bearing.
3. A strawberry huller comprising a pair of jaws, a spring handle, to the ends oi? which the jaws are respectively secured. sa :d jaws to ned rearwardly-entend ng arms provided near their inner ends with notches, whereby they are interlocked one with another.
In testimony -=;vhereof. I ha e gned this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
