INVENTUR.
JAMES A. WHITE, 0F GALT, ONTARIO, CANADA.
BRUSH HANDLE.
Application filed June 11, 1920.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that JAMES A. WHITE, of the Western Hotel, in the city of Galt, in the county of Waterloo, Province of Ontario, Canada, a subject of the King of Great Britain, has made certain new and useful Improvements in Brush Handles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to handles for paint brushes and the like, which may be secured to an ordinary short brush handle in substantial alinement therewith to produce a long handled brush, or adjusted tohold the brush at any desired angle to the supplemental handle,and my object is to provide a simple construction for the purpose described I attain my object by means of the constructions hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in. which Fig. 1 is aside elevation showing a short handled paint brush provided with my attachment;
Fig; 2 is a front elevation;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same with the paint brush held parallel to the length of the supplemental handle; and
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a modification of the adjustable slide.
In the drawings like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures.
1 is an ordinary short handled paint brush. To this handle I secure by means of boltsQ a channel bar 3. To the sides of one end of this bar I pivotally connect the sup plemental handle 41. by means of a pin 5. The paint brush may thus be swung to any desired angle relative to the length of the supplemental handle 4. To hold it as adjusted I provide the double link 6 pivotally connected with the channel bar and with the slide 7 adjustable lengthwise of the supplemental handle 4. This slide may consist of an ordinary sleeve adapted to be held in any position by a set screw 8 as shown in Fig. 4: or may be of thedivided form shown in Fig. 1, in which, case the legs of theU- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 16, 1922.
Serial No. 388,175.
shaped link 6 extend through lugs formed on the parts of the slide and nuts 9 are threaded thereon, which may be adjusted to hold the divided slide in any desired position. In the latter construction the pivotal movement of the link on the slide is limited but is sufficient for the purpose as the legs of the link 6 fit loosely in the holes in the lugs.
To hold the brush exactly parallel to the supplemental handle, it is necessary to remove the link 6, which is readily detachable, and to allow the supplemental handle to lie in the channel bar 3. It may be held therein by any suitable fastening device. I show the channel bar provided with lugs 10 through which bolts may pass and through one part of the divided sleeve 7. It will be understood, of course, that various other means of adjustment might be provided without departing from the spirit of my invention.
hat I claim as my invention is 1. A brush handle comprising a bar provided with means for securing it to a short brush handle; a supplemental handle pivotally connected to one end of the bar; a divided clamp embracing the supplemental handle; the parts of which are provided with apertured lugs; a U-shaped link pivotally connected with the bar, its legs being threaded and extending through the apertures in the lugs of the diyided clamp; and nuts screwed on said legs on each side of said lugs.
A. brush handle comprising a channel bar: means for securing a short brush handle to the back of the bar; and :a supplemental handle pivoted. between the sides of the channel bar and adapted to be snugly received and clamped between said sides; clamping means and laterally extending lugs on the channel bar for engagement by said clamping means.
Signed this 28 day of May, 1920.
JAMES A. WHITE.
