DISPLAY STAND.

Specification of Letters Iatent.
Patente May h, 1922...
T 0 all whom. 2'4. may concern Be it known that I, HENRY P. BRAon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Display Stands, of which the following i a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to display stands and more particularly to that class of display stands which may be used in show-windows for the display of small articles.
In its preferred form, my invention contemplates the provision of a strong and simple stand of this character which can be easily and cheaply manufactured and which can be shipped in knocked down form but be easily put together when required for use.
I will explain certain forms which my invention may take more in detail by referring to the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. 1 is a side view partly in section of a display tand constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a front view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a top view thereof;
Fig. 4 is a side elevation partly in section of a modified form of stand;
Fig. 5. is a section taken on line 5--5 of Fig. 4;
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary side elevation of a modified form of connection at the shelf end;
Fig. 7is a view at right angles to Fig. 6, partly in section and Fig. 8 is a fragmentary side elevation partly in section of a further modified form.
My improved display stand as shown in the drawing, consists of only three pieces shelf 10, the base plate 11 and the standard 13 which unites these two parts. i
The standard has at its opposite extremities, two bent portions 14 and 15 by means of which it is united to the shelf 10 and base plate 11. The manner of union consists of inserting these bent portions 14 and 15 re spectively through loops 16 and 17 which are expanded out of the metal proper of the parts 11 and 10 respectively, preferably by a punching operation. The shelf 10 may be angularly arranged as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, under which conditions of course the pro ect1on 15 is bent into a position to lieparallel to the 10 is to take.
The simplicity of the structure will be readily apparent as only three pieces are required for the product-ion of a secure and strong stand of this nature. Moreover, the parts can be readily separated as the pro jections 14 and 15 are easily slid into the loops 16 and 17, there being a snug fit be tween these parts when they are assembled together.
When it is desired to ship the devices from place to place, the three parts are separated and laid together to form practically a fiat package, taking a minimum amount of space.
The upturned flange 18 formed on the shelf 10 preferably erves as the back of the display stand when the display stand takes the form shown in Fig. 1.
In Figs. 4 and 5 is shown a stand with a slightly modified form of standard, the standard 13 being shown as being twisted and having the flat bent end portions 14' and 15 imilar to the portions 14 and 15, engaging the loops 16 and 17.
In Figs. 6 and 7 is shown a standard 13" having an opening in the upper end thereof through which extends the bolt 18, provided with the winged nut 19, which also extends through the ears 20 provided on the clip 21, secured to the bottom of the shelf 10", thus providing an adjustable connection between the shelf 10 and standard 13". In Fig. 8 is shown a display tand similar to that shown in Fig. 1, except that the shelf 10" extends at an angle to the horizontal and that the flange 18" serves as a support to prevent articles from falling off the shelf.
From what has been described, the nature of my invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art and having described certain forms which it claim a new and Patent is:
1. A device of the character described position which the shelf desire to secure by Letters comprising a shelf portion, a base plate and a standard, and means for removably uniting the opposite extremities of said standard with said shelf and base respectively, said means including wide, flat fingers on said standard and loops upon the shelf and base into which said fingers respectively project,
may take, what I.
said loops being formed from the body of the material by therefrom.
2. A device of the character described being expanded laterally i 10 provi ed with through which the fingers of said standard are adapted to extend with their flat faces in engagement with theplane surfaces of said base and shelf portion, whereby said shelf-like portion extends at an oblique 15 angle to said base.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 19th day of October A. 1).,
HENRY P. BRACE.
