PATENT OFFICE.
WATER-GOOLING ATTACHMENT FOR ICE BOXES.
Application filed August 25, 1921.
To all whom it may concern.
Be known that I, SAMUEL Knssilnn, a citizen of Poland, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of hilanhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved ater-Cooling Attachment for Ice Boxes, of which the f0llowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention has relation to refrigerating devices and refers more particularly to a water cooling attachment for ice boxes.
The invention contemplates broadly an attachment adapted to be arranged within the ice receiving compartment of an ice box for maintaining a supply of cold drinking water, which attachment occupies a minimum amount of space, and which is so positioned with relation to the ice as to obtain a maximum benefit of its cooling properties on the contents of the attachment.
As a further object the invention contemplates a water cooling attachment designed as an article of manufacture which is capable of association with practically all ice boxes of standard type.
As a further object the invention aims to provide a device of the character described which is extremely simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and which is readily applicable to and removable from the ice box.
Vith the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointedout in the ap pended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claim is expressed and by variations in thepliraseology of the same.
In the drawings- Figure l is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through the upper portion of an ice box illustrating the application of the attachment, taken approximately on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken approximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 10 designates an ice box having an upper ice receiving compartment 11 adapted to be normally closed by the cover 12; The attachment constituting the inven- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 4, 1922 Serial No. 495,214.
tion consists of a tank 13 of a length and height approximating the width and depth of the ice receiving compartment and of a relatively narrow width. The upper open end of the tank is provided with a flared mouth 14 to facilitate the filling of the same- The tank is provided adjacent its lower end with a nipple 15 providing an outlet openmg with which a union 16 is adapted to be engaged, said union being provided on one extremity of a sinuous pipe 17 constituting a water cooling coil. The opposite extremity 18 of the pipe is adapted to project through an opening at the forward portion of the bottom of the ice receiving compartment and through the front wall of the ice box for connection with a faucet 19 arranged exteriorly of the front wall of the ice box. In practice the tank 13 is preferably disposed with its rear wall parallel to and in flat contact with the inner wall of the ice receiving. compartment, while the sinuous pipe 17 rests in flat contact with the bottom wall of the ice receiving compartment. Preferably the upper open end of the flared mouth 14 is disposed in a position to be closed by the cover 12 when the same is in closed relation to the ice receiving compartment. The ice when arranged in the receiving compartment 11 will rest upon the sinuous pipe 17 to effect the cooling of the same and its contents, while said ice will at the same time tend to cool the tank 13 and its contents in order to insure a supply of cold drinking water at all times.
By the arrangement and construction de scribed it will be seen that a water cooling attachment is provided which occupies a minimum amount of space in an ice box, but which insures a supply of fresh cold drinking water cooled by the ice in the ice box. The device may be either built into an ice box at the time of its manufacture or may be sold as a separate attachment to be installed in ice boxes which have been previously sold.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A water cooler attachment for refrigerators comprising in combination with the ice receiving compartment thereof having a hinged cover, a relatively narrow water receiving tank positioned at the rear of said compartment, said tank having an open up per end adapted to be closed by said cover when in closed position, a sinuous water cooling Vided with a faucet, the said sinuous Water coolingpipe adapted to be arranged on the bottom of the ice receiving compartment to 10 maintain and support the water receiving tank in vertical position when coupled therewith and permitting of the removal of said tank when uncoupled therefrom.
