ALBERT I-IOILAND, OF FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA.
BOLT CLIPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 4, 1922.
Application filed September 27, 1919. Serial No. 327,409.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT HOILAND a citizen of the United States, residing at Fargo, in the county of Cass and State of North Dakota, have invented a new and useful Bolt Clipper, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bolt clippers and the main object is to provide a bolt clipper that will clip a bolt square across close by the surface from which the bolt projects.
In the accompanying drawing Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my improved bolt clipper. Fig. 2 is a top view of the clipper shown as applied in clipping a bolt projecting through a plate.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, 3 designates a pair of aw levers fulcrumed at t between suitable frame plates 5 and 5" and having internieshing teeth 6, and cutting aws 7, the latter having straight cutting edges 8 and are bent at 9 to such angle of about sixty degrees, or an angle sufficient to enable the side 10 of the jaws to be brought close to a boiler plate or other structure ll for cutting a bolt extending therethrough like 12 in Fig. 2 without the obstruction usually caused by the contact of the frame 5 with the plate 11.
The angle is also preferably such that the force required to cut the bolt will not tend to twist the levers in their frames, as is the case with aws having their edges extending directly forward in line with one side of each lever. For in Fig. 2 it will be seen that a line 13 extending practically along the middle of each lever runs to the center line of the bolt 12 which is the central point of force where the aws do the cutting.
The jaw levers may be operated by any suitable means, but I have shown a pair of hand-levers 14, pivoted at 15 to the jaw le vers and having overlapping short arms 16 connected by a pivot 17 which thus serve as a common fulcrum for both levers.
WhatI claim is:
A bolt clipper including operating jaws positioned in the same plane, having a fulcrum point formed on said jaws, lever ends on said jaws extending from the fulcrum point and cutting ends on said jaws formed out of alinement with said lever ends extending from a point adjacent said fulcrum point. I
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ALBERT HOILAND.
