To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosnPH A. KaIvAos, a citizen of the United States, residing at the village of Mount Vernon, county of Westchester, State of New York, have nvented an Improved Center Gauge, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates more particularly to that class of devices for the automatic projection of a center line to a point in advance of the base center.
Among other objects of my mventlo-n is for example, to indicate automatically the cutting center so that the material maybe laterally positioned in a milling machine, and in a similar manner to project the center for other purposes, thus dispensing with measuring devices and computations as is now required.
My invention comprises a centrally disposed indicator blade, pointed in the center at its front end, carried by'a lever extension or lazy arm actuated by the lateral motion of a laterally adjustable frame; the rear ends of which are adapted to adjustably grip the sides of the cutter in a milling machine or the sides of any object the center line of which is to be projected.
Having thus generally described my invention and the objects thereof 1 will now particularly describe the same by reference to the annexed drawing in which similar reference characters refer to identical parts.
Figure 1 shows a front view of my device with the side bars ofthe frame partially extended.

1 represents the indicator which is beveled at its front end to a centrally disposed point. Its rear end is provided with a guide slot 7, as shown, to provide the necessary travel of the indicator when the same is being positioned.
The indicator 1 is pivotally mounted on the links 4, 4, of the lever extension or lazy arm, being retained in place by a shoulder screw 5 which also secures the front ends of the links 4, 4, of the arm, the reverse ends of the links 4, 4, are, in a similar manner, secured to the front ends of the links 3, 3, of the extension arm. The links 3, 3, are also secured at their point of intersection, as shown, by a similar screw 6, the shoulder of which slidabl engages in the slot 7 in the indicator 1. t their rear ends '2, at one end. lugs or sleeves 10, 10, are provided, each of which is shown as having a slotted opening to engage the side bar 2, and these are secured by the pins 11, 11.
The sleeves 10, 10 are adapted to engage the sides of the cutter of a milling machine and by their engagement they position the indicator to automatically locate, on a projected line, the center for the lateral adjustment of the'material on a millin machine, or for any kindred purpose whereln the projection of a center line may be required.
Having thus specified, shown and described the same I claim as novel and my invention.
1. An automatic center gauge, comprising in combination, a frame consisting of two side bars and a guide bar upon which one of said bars is slidably mounted for lateral adjustment, and the other is fixed thereto, a lazy arm pivotally carried by the frame, and an indicator centrally disposed on said lazy arm.
2. In a center gauge in combination a frame comprising a lateral guide arm one side arm slidably mounted thereon for later- 211 motion, and the other fixed thereto, a lazy arm pivotally secured to the frame, said lazy arm being adapted to be projected by the lateral motion of the frame, and an adjustable indicating blade disposed at the extremity of said lazy arm.
3. An automatic center gauge comprising in combination, a laterally adjustable frame consisting of a lateral guide arm, a slide bar slidably mounted thereon adapted for lateral motion, another slide bar fixed thereto, an
indicator mounted on the frame adapted for I forward projection and means for positioning the indicator on a central line by the lateral adjustment of the frame.
