To all whom it may concern:

vBe it known that I, EDWARD JOHN FALKL- NER, a citizen of New South Wales, Australia, and a resident of the city of New York, county and State of New York, have 1nvented certain new and useful Improvements in Handles for Trunks, Kit Bags, and the like, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in handles for trunks, kit-bags and the like.

The object of the invention is to provide a resilient handle to replace the common leather handle now in use on portmanteaux, kit-ba gs and the like. 1

This carry-all or handle can be cheaply manufactured and will do away with the unsatisfactory and uncomfortable leather handle now universally used.

Referring to the drawings, A represents this invention as designed to replace the common leather handle now in use on portma-nteaux, kit-bags, etc. A tubular or solid handle 10 is joined onjeach side by two supports 11 and 12 which are shaped like the letter L, having in the middle of the top half of the support (which is attachable to the handle) a shelf 13, which is pierced by a hole 14 in the center enabling a guide .rod 15 which has a capping 15. to be used. hole of the shelf 13' (already described) the bottom guide pin passes through a hole in an elongated receptacle or plate 16 and is made fast to it on the outside of the two holes. The rods are enclosed in two spiral springs 17. The receptacle or plate is elongated and has two rounded ends 18 which enables two holders to be placed conveniently on the ends and the said holders are attachable to a suitable place on the bag or trunk B. The springs 17 at each side of the handle are brought into operation by the weight of the bag and its contents enablingthe bag, trunk, bundle or package to have a resilient .motion when carried, taking the strain as in any vehicle where springs are used.

Figs. 3, 4L and 5 show alternative forms of elongated plates enabling the handle to be attached to bundle carryingstraps consisting of downwardly turned ends 20 engaging the strap 21, which passes through an opening 22, in the ends 20, Fig. 5. The plate is formed with a downwardly extending, end 23 adapted to engage a member 2 1 which is also provided with an opening 25 through which a suitable strap is designed to pass.

' What I claim as my invention is:

1. A handle comprising a member mounted on supports at either end and a shelf projecting outwardly from the said supports at either end and springs mounted between the shelf and the supports.

2. A handle comprising a member pivotally mounted on supports; at either end and a shelf projecting outwardly from the supports at either end and guide rods passing through the shelves, and springs connected at one end to the supports and at the other end to the guide rods.
