I @Rooney UNITED` STATES PflP-flNT.l OFFICE.
STONE MACHINE CO., 0Fr HOALLIDAYSIBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
sHOcx-ABsOEBING DEVICE EOE ROLL oEUsHERs.
To all whom, t may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE E. KRDER, citizen of the United States, residing at Hollida sburg, in the county of 'Blair andState of ennsylvania, have inventedA certain new and useful Improvement in Shock-Absorbing Devices for Roll Crushers, of which the following is a specification.` This invention relates to animprovement in crushers of the single roll type `wherein the material to be crushed is placed ina suitable hopper or receptacle positioned abovethe roll, and gradually carried down between the face of therolland ayieldably supported breaker plate.
A primary object of the `invention is'to provide a Crusher of the type setr forth wherein the breaker plate is equipped with novel shock absorbing means to permit excessively hard material to pass without damaging the roll or plate and to this end it is proposed to employ a ball jointed toggle device of such a character that the breaker plate will be automatically swung back by abnormal pressures permitting the material to pass through the crusher. after which the joint again assumes its original operative position. Y Another object of the invention is to provide adjustable means for holding the ball jointed toggle device in closed position in such a manner that it is unaffected bythe lusual vibrations of the crusher plate.v
With the above and other objects in view which will be more readily apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully pointed out, illustrated and claimed.
It will be readily understood by those skilled in the art-'to which this invention be'- v longs, that the same is susceptible of change and modification without departing from the spirit or scope of thefinvention, but a preferred and practical embodiment thereof is shown in the accompanying drawings" in which: 1 f
Figure l is a side elevation of a single roll Crusher having my invention applied thereto.
Y Figure 2 is an end elevation of the crusher shown in Figure l' showing av back `view ofthe Crusher plate.
y Specicaticn'of Iletters. Patent. Patented zMa'r. 14 1922. I* application mea Ma'y 1'(y 1920. serial No. 332,036.

F igureetis an enlarged viewofthe togt `glo joint 'used to hold operative position. j
'Figure *'5 isy ay view of n the toggle joint shown in vFigure 4 Vin the; position assumed when `the vcrusher iplate is thrown back-to the crusher plate in l permit' extremely hard substances to `pass through the crusher.'
1 Figure 6 is a plan view of the parts shown in Figure tof-the drawings. n
f F1gure 7 includes plan, side sectional, `and end views of one of the links used in connection' wlth the arrangement 'shown in Fig- 'ure4. i l" i Similar reference-numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several iigures of the drawings. l.
In carrying the yinvention intoreffect, no
changeois essentialfin thel crusher roll, the
hopper or thev crusher plates, the present `improvement` being directedfparticularly to a novel device for relieving the roll and the crusher plate of abnormal strains which occur when substances Vtoo hard to be crushed pass between the plate 'and itlieroll. In
other words, the invention isdiected chiefly .to anovel shock or impact absorbing device wherein the power 03E-resistance is 'multiplied or increased according: tothe relative amplitude vof movementof thecrusher plate. Y Accordingly, lit'is proposed to utilize the .conventional hopper l'havingtherein ka sin- 7 glecrusher roll2 and a vCrusher plate Spivotally suspendedas at 4 in one end of the crusher frame. vThe said plate 2 'is preferably of the concave form shown and carries a removablewear surface 5 which maybe of i the vconventional corrugated'type to facilitate the crushingractionu Y The lower end of the Crusher plate 3 may 'be providedwith anoiise't lug 6 which'i's adapted tojreceive thefclevis 7 of the tie or 'anchor connection designated'generally as 8 and Vincluding the eyebolt 9 adjustably en? lgaging the Crusher frame. 7 The said lug. 6
may also receive the ey'e 10 of'a main tension 'frame yol? the crusher through the eye'opening 12 in the upstanding abutment 13 and carries at its end opposite the eye' l()v a'rela- -rod l1' which extends longitudinally of the los Aconfined between one side ofthe link and the abutment 18.
By reason of this con struction it will be apparent that the tie or anchor connection 8 previously" referredto socketv 16 forworkingon theroundedlbearing abutment17 held onthe rod 11 .byimeans `of the nut 18. Asshowni'n Figure 7- the said link 14, is Aprovided adjacent thel socket 16 with a relatively wide clearant opening rod 11 at right angles to the axis of the' rod. :1t `will also `be observed fronrtli'is figure and Figures 4 and 5 that the said link 14 is pivotally connected as `at 19 with fthe' intermediate portion of the restraining lirk- 20 `which is pivoted as at 21 to the upper` part of the abutment 13.; The end of the restraining link 20 opposite Vits point of pivotal support on the abutment is formed `with a Acupped'bearing socket 22 for engaging .withthe rounded abutment 23 slidable on` thelvertically kdisposed oscillatable or relatively pivoted standard 24. This rounded bearing `abutment 2,3 works against the tension of the coil spring 25 positioned on the rod 24 and abutting against the Washer 26, on the upper end thereof. The lower end lof the said rod 24 also carries a rounded ,bearing abutment 27 for engaging; within t .the `socket 28 ofthe frame member 29.
The arrangement of the parts described is such that whenthe crushei plate `is in its normal position, the oscillatable or relatively `pivoted standard 24 is in its `normal, vertical position, anda-lso the links 14l and A20 areA in their normal horizontal position. However-3 when the crusherplate cvis swung in a counter-clockwise direction by the force of a .lump of abnormal `size being crowded abetween it and the roll, the main tension rodA 11 will ymove in the direction ofthe arrow in Figure 5 to causethe Vparts toassume the positionsshown in that figure. It will therefore be obvious that the Crusher plate 3 moves against the resistance of both the springs 15 and 25, with the increased resist- `ance dueto. theleverage between` the 1inks1'4 `and120 as the` former tends to lift lthejlatter. The particular arrangementojf links `and v,springs is especially advantageous since it provides a much greater resistance by using Vseveral, springs of thesamefelative siz'e, therebyproviding increased resistance: to the movement of the crusher plate,', where it might otherwise be impossible if it were necessary to provide more springs or heavier spings'directily acted on bythe movement lol? the main rod-11.
The present device therefore provides for amaximum resistance while at the' same time Aobserving the structural limitations of the machine.
WVithout further description it is thought rthat the features and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, and it will of course be understood, `that changes in the form, proportion and' minor detailsy off constructionmay be resorted to without departing `from the spirit of the invention or scope of the appended claims.:V
Iclaim-s w' y s -m '1.5Ashock absorbing' device for Crusher plates includinga main-'tension rodI connected 'with the `Crusher plate, an oscillatable or'relatively pivot/ed standard disposed at i right a-n l'es to said main rod, a spring thereon, and jointed levers respectively' connected ,with said main tension 'rod and operati-Iig?,- agaifnst the spring on the" vertical standard'.
2. A shock absorbing: device: for Crusher plates including a-pairo'li'- rods disposed at right angles to each other and one of them beingI connected with the-1 crusher platte, springs for tensioning said rods, and jointed levers respectively connected with one of v saidrods and one of said springs. Y A
A3. A shock absrbing device` for crushers including a main tension rod, an abutment,
4a spring `working against said abutment; an
oscillatable orrelati'vely `pivoted standard,
a spring on said standarch-and a lever device connecting sa'id main tension rod and the spring on the oscillatable or relativelyY` piv oted standard, said lever device including a rocking link confined betweena portion of ff the Amain tension rod andthe said abutment, and restraining link `pivotally connected with the said- :tbutment'bearing against the spring ontheoscillatable rod and also liaving its intermediate portieri connected with said relatively rockable link.
j 4. lA shock? absorbing device for crushers including almain, tension rod, an abutment, anosci-llatable standard disposed at right angles to the rod, a spring on said standard, a
