UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARJORY C. HEINZEN, F BOSTON, MASSACHUEETTS ATHLETIC CORSET FOR WOMEN.
' Application filed April 2, 1921. Serial No. 458,151.
' at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Athletic Cor-- sets for Women, of which thefollowing is a specification.
The object of my present invention is the provision of a corset for women characterlzed by the fact that it is boneless at the back and front so as to afford smoothnessacnoss the abdomen andsupportthe'sam'e-and yet is adapted to permit the freedom in bendlng as well as freedom when the wearer is seated and when the wearer is walking or is indulging in dancing, skatipgrs'ar tennis.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
Ir! the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification Figure 1 .is a front elevation of a corset constructed in acordance with my invention. Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the corset.
Figure 3 is an elevation of the right hand sideof said corset.-
Figure 4 is an elevation of the left handside thereof.
Figure 5 is a. front elevation showing another type of corset constructed in accordance with my invention.
Similar numerals designate corresponding parts in Figures 1 to 4 to which reference will first be made.
The embodiment shown in Figures 1 to .4 is for stout figures,'and in order to afford the adjustment necessary for stout figures the body 1 of the corset is-laced throughout its height at one side, preferably the right hand side, as illustrated in Figure 3, the lacing cord 2 being either elastic or non-elastic as desired. For the reception of the cord 2 I prefer to arrange featherbone strip 3 in the edge portions of the body, and to form in the body back of said strip 3 vertical series ofapertures 4. The body 1 is boneless at the front and also at the back and is preferably formed of the material usually employed in the construction of corset bodies. At one side, preferably the left hand side, the body 1 has its edge portions detachably connected throughout the heights of the body through the medium of the corset clasp 5 or other fastening appropriate .5 the" corset body 1 to the purpose. It will also be readily understood that the corset is provided with stocking supporters 6 carried by the body 1, and with stocking supporters 7 carried by in inserted section 8 of material that is elastic horlzontally or in a direction at right angles to the height of the corset. The said inserted section 8 is preferably of the triangle form illustrated with the a x of the triangle in the vert1cal center 0 the corset, and it is des1gned..to contribute to the adequate support of the abdomen while affording reat reedom when the wearer bends the b0 y or assumes a sitting posture.
By virture of the construction shown and described it will be appreciated that the hip and lower front portion of the corset or girdle is the only tight part of the corset or girdle as is desirable in an athletic corset or one designed particularly for the use of those who indulge in exercise.
In the embodlment illustrated in Figure is boneless at the front and at the back, and is open at one side, preferably the left hand side, and is there rovided with corset 'clasps 5 or other detachably connecting means. At the same side and at its lower end the corset body 1 is provided with an inserted section 8 of elastic material, and at its opposite side the said corsetbody 1' is provided with an inserted "section 8 of elastic material which extends throughout the height of the body 1. In the vertical center of the body 1 a section 8 similar to that before described is employed.
The said embodiment of Figure 5 is designed more particularly for young and slim figures, and by virtue of its construction it is calculated to afford adequate support for the abdomen while permitting of great freedom in the movements of the body. In order to render the body 1 or girdle adjustable above the waist line I prefer to provide the upper vertical central opening 9 in the said body and to lace the body portions at opposite sides of said opening 9 through the medium of a cord 10 which cord 10 may be either elastic or non-elastic as desired.
While I prefer to make the inserted elastic section 8 in the form illustrated and described I would have it distinctly understood that it is within the purview of my invention to make the said inserted section 8 of any configuration compatible with the I 1, 2, 3, and 4 on both sides just in front of side garters if I deem it advisable, or only on one side as in Fig. 5;
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by 'Letters- 10. Patent, is
In "a corset, a body of appropriate ma- 1 terial boneless at the front and at the back and having in the lower end of its front portion at the vertical center thereof an in serted section of elastic material; the said inserted section of elastic material being equipped with a' air of pendent stocking su porters.
n testimony whereof, I aflizi "my signature. '1 I MAR-JOEY o. HEINZEN;
