Description

W. STEINER.
ADJUSTABLE SPOTLIGHT. AP CATION men FEB. 7, 1921.
1,407, 97, Patented Feb. 28, 1922 WITNESS:
M p )haa' 44; ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT omce.
WALTER STEINER, OF NEAR DAYTON, OHIO.
ADJUSTABLE SPOTLIGHT.
Application filed February justable Spotlights, of which the following is -a specification. i
The principal bject of my invention is to provide an adjustable spot-light for automobiles and other vehicles, that may be turned with ease to throw the light to the right or left and up or down. It is another object f my inventionto provide for the light, control means whereby-the lamp may be readily adjusted from the interior of a sedan or other type of automobile.
Other important and incidental objects will be brought out in the following speci fication, and particularly set forth in the subjoined claim.
4 In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1. is a rear-eleva-tional view of my adjustable spot-light supported by a wind-shield. And Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof, showing the holding and controlling means for the ligh.t.
Throughout the specification and drawings, similar reference characters denote corresponding parts.
In a detailed description of one form of embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a right angled, twisted supporting member at one end of which there is a pair of clamping jaws 2', 2 of a common type for gripping a portion of the frame 3 of a wind-shield glass 4:. At its outer end the supporting member 1 terminates in a pair of clamping portions 5, 5 which receive, for a turning movement between them,
an elongated tube 6. The clamping portions 5, 5 are preferably made of spring metal whose tension upon the tube 6 is adjusted by a wing nut 7 on the threaded end of a bolt 8 that passes through holes in the outer ends of said clamping portions.
Hingedly secured to an ear 9 0n the front portion of the outer end of the tube 6, is one end of a plate 10 to whose front portion there is secured an electric spot-lamp 11. To the rear corner end of the supporting plate 10 there is pivotally secured one end of a rod 11 that projects into the tube 6 for pivotal connection at its rear end to Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 28, 1922. 7, 1921. Serial Ne. 443,206.
a handle 12. The latter projects transversely through a slot 13 in the tube 6 for pivotal connection to an ear 14 formed on the latter. The outer end of the handle 12 terminates 1n anball portion 15 which may be readily grasped by the hand to operate the lamp.
When the supporting member 1 is secured to the windshield frame or other part of an automobile, the tube 6 is disposed be tween the clamping portions 5, 5 at a point which will bring the handle portion 12 to a position for convenient operation by the driver. If the automobile is of the closed type, the tube'6 may project through a hole in the body. The lamp 11 maybe now moved to throw its rays to the right or left by'moving the handle 12 in a horizontal plane, the dotted lines in handle is moved to throw the light on the left side of the road. By turning the handle through the vertical arc of a circle, the vertical position of the lamp may be changed to throw its rays at different angles in a vertical plane. It is thus seen that my device makes it possible for the driver to con veniently adjust the position of the lamp 11, either yertically or horizontally, by turning the tube 6 in the first instance and by moving the rod 11 in the tube in the second lnstance, through the medium of the handle 12.
I do not wish to be limited to the details of the construction and arrangement herein shown and described, and any changes or modifications may be made therein within the scope of the subjoined claim.
aving described my invention, I claim: In a device of the type described, the
combination with a spot-light lamp, of a Figure 2 showing how the
