Specification of Letters Patent. Patentcgd Feb, 21, 1922.
Application filed September 25, 1920. Serial No. 412,769.
a bucket with a handle integral therewith and with a top which is forcibly held in sealed position when the two members of the handle are locked together, thus. preventing absolutely any entrance of foreign matter into the bucket.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a View of the blank from which the bucket is made; i
Fig. 2 is the assembled bucket with hanclle locked.
Fig. 3 is the assembled bucket with the sealing flaps raised and the handle unlocked.
Referring to Fig. 1, 1 is a bottom, 2 a side having integral therewith side flaps 3 and 4:. There is also integral with the side 2 a top flap 5. The bottom has a sealing flap 6 and 7 on either side thereof to cooperate in holding the sides together. On the other side of the bottom 1 integral with it is a side 8. The side 8 has on its right hand side as a part of it a side flap 9 and on the other side a side flap 10. The side 8 also has as a part of it a top 11. As apart of 8, 9, 10 and 11 is the handle member 12 and the handle member 13. Between 12 and 11 as a part thereof is a sealing flap 14. 14 and 12 are severed from one another from the top down to the point 15. 16 is a part of the locking flap to lock 12 to 13.
On the other side, 13 has a similar oonstruction in connection with the sealing flap 17 which is a part of it. V
'The heavy lines indicate the scored portions of the blank to facilitate its being folded. 13 and 17 are severed from one an other down to the point 18. 19 is a part of the locking arrangement.
It should be repeated that one of the primary purposes of my invention is to eliminate the separate formation of a'handle and all the separate operations that are involved in that work. If no handle is used, as in some sections of the country, then the bucket must be placed in a paper bag. My invention eliminates this. It eliminates the ex pense of a separate handle which has to be put in at a time different from that at which the blank is manufactured.
More important still is the fact that it has been found difficult to keep the top properly sealed, but by my invention I am able to keep the top firmly in its closed position with sealing flaps to prevent any foreign material from entering by reason of the positive locking of the handle.
While I have shown and described certain features as constituting my invention, it will be understood that parts have been shown for purposes of illustration only, and that I do not desire to be limited to such details, as obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A bottom, an ear on either side thereof integral therewith, a side wall integral with said bottom, a side flap on either side thereof, a top flap. connected therewith opposite said bottom, a second side wall connectedwith said bottom, a side flap on one side thereof, a side flap on the other side thereof a top flap connected to the second side wall, a handle member connected to one of the side flaps of the second side wall, a handle member connected to the other of said side flaps of the second side walla web integral with one of the handle members and said lastmentioned top flap, a second web integral with the second handle member and said last mentioned top flap, whereby when the bucket is assembled and the handle memof, a top flap connected to the second side wall, a handle member connected to one of the side flaps of the second side wall, a handle member connected to the other of said the handle members joined to one another the top flaps Will be forcibly held'inposition and securely sealed.
In testlmony whereof, I afiix my signature. 7
side flaps of the second side wall a Web in tegml with one of the handle members and said Iast-mentioned top flap, a secondweb integral with the second handle member and said last mentioned top flap, and means to lock said handle members to one another, whereby when the bucket is assembled-and BERTONi-I; HIKE.
