IMPROVEMENT IN PORTFOLIOS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1&0fl25, dated July 8, 1873; application filed June-16, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. PALMER, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a Portfolio, of which the following is a specification:
llhis invention relates to a portfolio for holding sheet-music, and, when placed on a piano or music-rack, is made a sheet-music rest for holding sheet-music steadily upright in place 5 and consists of aportfolio having at the lower end of the inside pages two narrow hinged shelves attached, which support the sheets when standing upright.
The-accompanying drawing illustrates my improved portfolio.
A A represent the two sides or leaves of a portfolio. B B are two narrow strips of metal or other suitable material, (brass is the neatest, and preferable,) which are attached by hinges at the lower side of the leaves A A in such a manner that they may be turned down into a horizontal position, like that seen at the left side, and are intended for supports for the sheet-music to stand upon. The stiff sides of the portfolio support the music, bending inward at the middle and falling over. When not in use the shelves B B are turned up and lie against the sides A A, and then the portfolio can be closed together with the sheet-music inside of it.
in this manner sheet-music may be carried about and in the portfolio, and when wanted for a music-rest is readily and quickly applicable to that use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- In combination with a portfolio, A A, the hinged shelves B B, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES W. PALMER.
