To all/whom t may concern Be it known that LROBERT SrmDEL, a citizen of the German Empire, residing atV Calmbach, Vurttemberg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Packages, (for which I have led applications in ermany, Oct. 19, 1917 Denmark, Aug. 2, 1918; Sweden, Dec. 19, 1919; Norway, Dec. 28, 1919; Austria, Dec'. 1'?, 1919; Switzerland, Dec. 31, 1919,) of which the following is a specification. y

` My invention refers to packages and more especially to the packing-up of fish, meat and the like, its particular object being a package allowing to safely forward'such and other easily perishable goods packed in ice. Y

It is old to dispatch vctuals in double walled containers which, however did not answer their purpose to full satisfaction.

In those cases, where only smaller quantities of ice wereused for keeping the victuals in fresh condition, the melting ice, provided that the distance was not too long, could be kept back in the container by aid of suitable absorbing means. For long distance forwarding however the ice as well as the absorbing means had to be renewed `in time, much trouble and costs being caused thereby. Moreover the transport had to be interrupted in many cases. If greater quantities were employed, the victuals were .spoiled in general owing to the lack of ventilation and to the fact of the melting ice not beingabsorbed.

In the package according yto the present invention, now, these drawbacks are successfully avoided. In the novel package substantially consisting of a double walled containerv the lower parts of the vertical walls of the inner box, which are firmly secured to the bottom of the outer one, are provided with ledges carrying a removable frame serving as a bottom for the inner box or container, the said frame being designed toform a hollow space serving to take up the insulatingmaterial aswell as the water dripping off the meltingice and escaping through openings provided in the said frame. Abovek the outer bottom as well as above the frame there is arranged a thin layer of wood-wool which is designed to piel vent the insulating material from falling out through the openings provided in the outer bottom and further to facilitate the escape of thevwater. v

In the drawings aixed to the specification and forming part thereof a package embodying my invention is illustrated by way of example. In the drawin s:

Referring to the drawings, a is the outer containerv and b is the inner one; d are the fish or the like packed in a well knownv manner in ice e and in wood-wool, straw or the like; o are the ledges, disposed near the lower parts of the side walls of the inner container and ab is the frame removably disposed on said ledges and having openings provided thereinrwhich allow melting water to drip through into the space c1 serving to take up insulating material.

The frame can easily be removed by aid of folding rings la. Immediately above the openings g arranged in the frame as well as in the outer bottom of the container, there is disposed a thin layer of wood-wool which is preferably covered with sawdust as an insulating material. The thin layer of wood-wool or the like besides acting as an insulation also acts as a means for absorbing the water dripping oil'` the melting ice. Before fillin afresh a packing of the kind beforesai the frame need merely be removed in order to replace the saw dust or the like, and if necessary also the layer of wood-wool by fresh material whereupon the frame is put in again and ice and victuals can be packed thereon.
