HERBEBT A. CHRISTIAN, F VALLEJO, CALIFORNIA.
SANITARY TOILET SEAT.
' TIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vallejo, in the county of Solano and State of California, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Sanitary Toilet Seats, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to a sanitary toilet seat.
An object of the invention is to provide a toilet seat with a paper receptacle secured upon the'under face of the seat but located to one side'thereof, saidreceptacle having means therein but operated from the exterior thereof for unrolling a determined quantity of paper therethrough over the seat, the said paper having elliptical openings therein corresponding to the hole in the seat.
A further object of the invention is to produce an article of this character which may be easily and quickly attached to any ordinary construction of lavatory seats.
Other objects and advantages will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a p an view illustrating the application of the improvement showing a sanitary paper covering applied to the seat in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the device.
Figure 3 is a sectional view approximately on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view approximately on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a sectional view approximately on the line 5-5 of Figure 4.
Figure 6 isa plan view of the device with I the cover of the receptacle open.
Figure 7 1s a plan vlew of the improvement in the shape in which the same may be presented to the trade.
. In the drawing the numeral 1 designates a toilet seat for a bowl 2. 1
. My improvement contemplates the employment of a casing which is substantially circular in. cross section but which has its outer edge provided with an extension in the nature of a ledge 3. This edge, when the device is presented to the tra e is in the nature .of a flat plate, but when attached to the under face of the toilet seat the same is cut Specification of Letters Patent.
which is hingedly connected to the outer sideof the casing, as at 11. The cover is provided with a knob 12 whereby the same may be swung to open or closed position.
Passing centrally through the alining openings in the ends of the casing is a rod 13. This rod has its ends threaded, and is of a slightly greater length than that of the easing. The threaded ends of the rods are cu gaged by the threads in the sockets of headed members 14, which contacting with the outer face of the ends of the casing hold the rod against longitudinal movement. The rod also passes through elongated openings 15 in spring plates 16 that have their upper ends secured to the sides of the casing. The

5 is formed on a straight explates are bowed inwardly of the casing from their connection therewith and are ends of the roll of paper prevents the free turnin of the said paper on the drum therefor. t is, of course, to be understood that the aper may be wound upon a drum having integral ends, if desired.
the nature of longiwhich are preferably in ated slots 21 are the tudinallydisposed elon endsor trunnions 22 o 23. This roller has an outer facing of com: pressible material 24,;and each of the trun nions thereof is engaged by a spring 25 that is secured to the endsof the casing, so that. the free or accidental turning of the; roller will be revented. springs orce the roller toward the-straight inner face of the casing so that a roper frictional en a ement between the r01 erand the vpaper w v e thus aflorded. One of the Journaled in suitable bearing openings" are inserted into the I a paper feed r'ol ler In addition to this, the
.trunnions has itsends cranked as at 26,-and,
1 the roller.
this crank serves as the operating handle for The handle is, of course, disposed adjacent the outer edge of the casing and adjacent to the outer end of the seat.
' The roller has on one of its ends a ratchet wheel 27 which is engaged by a spring pawl 28 secured upon the front face of the casing whereby the roller may be turned in one direction only.
The sanitary or antiseptic paper provides a single sheet which may be divided into a number of separate small sheets by lines of perforations, each of the small sheets being centrally provided with a round or elliptical opening corresponding to the opening in the toilet seat. It will be apparent that by operating the crank or handle end of the feed roller the paper will be fed through a space provided between the referred to straight front wall of the casing and the lip at the end of the'cover or closure therefor so that one of the sheets 29 maybe properly 'arranged over the seat. After use this sheet 1s detached, placed in the bowl and flushed in the sewer in the usual manner. It is obvious that the lipped end of the cover provides a straight edge whereby the sheet 29 may be severed from the remainder of the antiseptic pa er. 1 I aving thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1'. A device of the class described comprissaid casing to for ing a casing having straight inner edge of said casing, a cover hingedly connected to the outside of said. A
casing and having upstanding flange cooperating with the iraight inner edge of feed opening" and an to said roller er operating handle W teriorly of the casing 2. A device of the class described compriselongated aligned slots therein adjacent to straight inner edge, a roller mounted in the elongated slots in said casing, a ratchet wheel secured to one end of said roller, a spring pawl secured to the front face of the casing and adapted to ena e said ratchet wheel s rin means secured to said casing and adapted to force said roller toward the straight inner edge of said casing, a cover hingedly connected to the outer side of said casing and having an upstanding flange cooperating with the straight inner edge of said casing to form a feed opening and an operating handle secured to said roller exteriorly of the casing.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
