' The object of Imylinvention is to provide aQsuit'a'ble plate holder fqr dental films'which may be placed 'inthe mouth'offa patient re-' peatedlyj and in any predetermined position with regard to the directionof propagation of X-rays so that when the device is in 'use, shadow pictures of parts may be re eatedly taken from the same position bi t e plate and uniform results I obtained. The pointer 12 carries. a pivot. 13 on which is mounted an angle plate 14'whic'h is also iv-' otally mounted andprovicled with two dials,- one on each face, one for the pointer 12 and the second dial 15 for a pointer '16 which is pivotally mounted at 17, as shown, and provided with, a socket 18which is adapted to receive a removablvmouhted orange-stick 19 or similar device, which when in use, reststfio in or near the X-ra-ysand substantially parallel to their direction of propag'ation.

The two dials and two pointers 12 and 16, enable the dentist to set the stick 19 at-any desired inclination to the film holding 'portion 2, and he may r'ecord this inclination by" designating the two dials in any suitable way and the position of each pointer jon this dial so that at any future date, he may again set this stick at any desired inclination. f

The X- 'ay tube is no adjusted until the orange-stick 19 lies parallelto the extension tube (see Figure 6.) Then a sec- 0nd picture is taken and the projection on the negative is exactly the same as the first and any changes which may appear upon a comparison on the two negatives indicate a change in the patient's condition.

The arm 3 could be fixed to thefilm holder 2 if that were desirable. hut it is'not. The preferred construction is shown in which this arm is pivoted at 20 and in the lilm holder 2 are placed two protuberam-es 21. either of which may be caused to register "ith a corresponding depression :22 in the arm 3 so that this arm may be placed at either side according to whether the plate holder is to be used at the right or left of the patient.

Iirview of the foregoing. it willjlie understood that my improved plate holder may he modified in various ways all of which come within the scopeof this invent-ion.

What I claim is:

1. In a plate holder. means for holding a tilm'and an indicator connected to the holder with means for enabling the indicator to h placed at the same angle to the nlm holder when itis desired to reproduce the relations between them.

.2. In a plate holder, means for holding a film. an arm pivotally mounted on said film holding means and an indicator mounted on said armand provided with means for permitting a shifting of the indicator toamy predetermined' angle with regard to the lilm holding means.

3. In a plate holder. means for holding a film and an indicator connected therewith so that it may be shifted to either side. oftho film holding means and set at any desired angle to the lilm.

4-. In a plate holder. means for holding a film. u pivoted arm mounted on said film holding means. and an indicator mounted on said arm by a suitable connection so that it may be held at any desired angle to the'lilm.

In a plate holder. means for holding a film aml an indicator connected to said tilm holding means. said indicator being prt'ivided with an angle plate and pointers pivotally connected therew. h. whereby the indicator may he set at a prcdretermim-d angle.
