Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Childrens Beds, .of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to. the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to an improved foldconstruction and combination of parts that is hereinafter particularly described and distinctly claimed.

The object of my invention is to provide an improved separate folding-bed, especially adapted for infants at the nursing age, but which bed'may be made of suitable size to adapt it for use of children of considerable age and which bed shall be capable of at tachment of its open side to the side-rail. of the parents bed, whereby there will be no obstruction on that side to interfere with the free handling of theinfant by the parent occu in the said. arents bedand'which P3 2: P a

childs bed maybe quickly detached from the parents bed after use, and folded into a very small and compact bundle, and be packed away, or placed beneath the parents bed, until again required for use.

In the drawings, Fig. l is a top plan-View of my childs bed, partly insection, unfolded .and attached tothe parents bed, ready for use, the footportion of said parents bed being broken awayto economize in drafting space.

In carrying out my invention, I provide a childs bed with. a main side-section, com. posed of -two end poststhat'reach to the floor, to support one side of said bed; said posts being designated by the numeral 4; bottom side-rail'5; top side-rail 6; suitable vertical rods17 connecting said bottom and top side-rails to guard the child, and prevent it from crawling out of the bed; folding end= sections 8," whose vertical frame-bars are hinged to and vertically adjustable upon the adjacent end-posts 4, suitable hingeshav ing oneof their leaves 9 encircling said end posts and adjustable vertically thereon suitable thumb-screws (or other common setscrews). 10 for adjustably fastening said? leaves to said posts; opposite hinge-leaves 11 pivoted to said leaves 9 by means of pintles 12, and fixed securely to the said vertical frame-bars ofsaid folding end-sections 8 by means of rivets or other fastenings l4; and a suitable bed-spring frame 15 that has; its outer edgepivoted to a horizontal extension 16' of the said hinge-leaves 9 by means of intles 17 and nuts 18. A common toggle-brace 241 is provided with the usual two sections pivotal-1y connected at about the center of the lengthof said brace by means of a'rivet or screw 25, and one end of sa d brace is pivoted at 23 to the said bed frame 15, while'the opposite end 'of saidbrace is pivoted at 27'to the-adjacent folding leg 21 at'a point some distance below the said pivotal-point 22 of said leg, so that the said toggle-brace will (when ex tended) be located obliquely, as shown in Fig. 7, and act as avery efficient brace for said leg. 7

A folding-gate on guard 28, to prevent the infant or child from escaping from the bed at the side which is opposite the said main side-section, is composed of a rectangular frame 29 carrying suitable vertical bars or rods 7, and has brackets 30 fixed was lower edge and pivoted to the said brackets 23 by cupy a vertical position, out of the way and thesame pivoting-means 22 which are used to hingedly secure the upper ends of said folding legs 21 to thesaid folding bed-frame 15, whereby the said folding-gate'may be swung to occupy the position which it occupies in Figs. 7 and 9, or be swung downwardly and inwardly, upon and against the said. legs 21, after they have been folded in the manner above described. 7

To detachably hold the said folding-gate 28 in position for use as a gate,'as shownin Figs. 7 and 9, I have provided suitable fastening-devices, which may be in the form of spring clips that are U-shaped in planview, as shown in detail in Fig. 8'. I

Said spring clips are composed of a strip of spring-metal having parallel clamping arms 31, which engage on opposite sides of the said gate-frame 29. adjacent their free scribed swinging or folding end-sections 8,

so that when the latter are swung into the using position (which is that shown in Figs. 7 and 9) the said spring clamping arms 31 will engage the adjacent vertical bars of the said gate-frame 29, and detachably hold said frame'in position for use as a gate frame.-

Rivetsor other fastenings 32 are used to fasten the said spring-clips to the vertical bars of the said folding end-sections 8 of the bed. Lugs 33 are mounted upon said folding end-sections sto support said bed springframe 15 when same is in an unfolded posi tion. See Fig. 1. i. T he operation and manner of usingmy invention will be readily understood from the above description. 1claim: An improved folding childs bed composed of a main side-section-having fixed legs which extend to the floor; folding endsections hinged to and adjustable vertically uponthe main side-section; hinges having. one of their leaves encircling said end-posts and provided with a horizontal extension;

suitable thumb-screws for adjustably fasten ing said leaves to said end-posts; a bed folding end-sections; and supporting-means mounted upon said end-sections to hold the free edge .of said bed .sp'ring-frame inf a horizontal position when said frame is in use.
