Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 2Q, 11921.
Application filed February 17, 1921. Serial No. 445,641.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, .Vxnnmrxn Kors, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Brassieres, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a brassiere and more particularlyto that type of brassiere comprising a front member and a back memher, with the front member so constructed as to include end extensions adapted to pass around the body of the wearer and with the back member also so constructed as to include extensions adapted to overlie portions of the extensions of the front member and to pass around the waist of the wearer, with suitable means attached to the extensions of both the front and back members for adjusting and securing the garment to position. In garments of this type, as heretofore constructed, it has been found that the straps, tapes or other means employed for adjusting and securing the garment to position have a tendency to work or ride up from the waistline and to thereby cause the garment to loosen and wrinkle, particularly at the side portions thereof. The object of the present invention is the provision of devices in a garment of the class to which the invention relates for holding the straps, tapes or other means for securing the garment in position in place permanently so as to prevent the parts of the garment from loosening and wrinkling at the sides thereof as hereinbefore intimated, and in carrying out the in tention these devices are preferably situated in the lower front central portion of the front member of the garment, as will be hereinafter more particularly described.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the use of a brassiere with the attachments comprising the present invention, and Fig. 2 is a partial plan of the lower front portion of the garment showing my invention on a larger scale than that illustrated in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 thereof, the brassiere made in ccordance with this invention comprises a front member 10 and a back member 11. These front and back members are preferably connected by shoulder straps indicated at 12 and 13. The front member is provided with side extensions 14 and 15, and similarly the back member is provided with side extensions 19. Attached to and extending from the side extensions 14 and 15 there are tie straps or tapes, and similarly connected to and extending from the side extensions 19 there are tie straps or tapes. In the use of this garment, as hereinbefore described, and as heretofore employed, the brassiere is passed over the head of the wearer and the front member adjusted to position by passingthe side extensions 1% and 15 around the waist of the body and crossing the front straps and extending and continuing the same to the waist line at the front thereof where the ends of the tapes may be tied to adjust and secure the parts of the garment in place, and the back member is similarly adjusted by passing the side extensions around the waist of the body forwardly and tying the back tapes at the front portion of the waist line so that the side extensions of the back member overlie the side extensions of the front member. Also as heretofore constructed the side extensions of the front member are adapted to act as a support for the back of the wearer and the portions of these side extensions which underlie the overlapping portions of the side extensions of the back member coact with one another to support the body at the side portions thereof.
As hereinbefore stated, with the parts of the garment adjusted to position as described there has been found to be a tendency of the adjusting and tying tapes to ride upwardly from the waistline causing the garment, particularly at the sides thereof, to loosen and wrinkle and produce an uncomfortable and unsightly appearance. In order to overcome this difficulty the brassiere may be provided with suitable devices for securing the tapesin position after they have been tied.
By reference to Fig. 2 it will be seen that these attachment devices for securing the tapes in position may include a ring 29 which is fixed to the lower front central portion of the front member by being attached to straps 30 and 31 which are secured to the garment in any desired manner. In the use of this form of the invention the adjusting and tying tapes are passed through the ring before being tied or otherwise secured to one another for maintaining the garment in position on the body of the wearer. Also by reference to this figure it will be seen that I may employ in the frontportien of the garment suitably placed eyes 32 and 88 which, as illustrated, are secured in a strap 34 and are adapted to be engaged by hooks35 provided at the ends of tapes 36 secured to the extremities of the side extensions of the back member in lieu of the tapes E20 and 21. It will be understood, of course that in this construction the hooks 35 are connected to the tapes 36 and the position of which may be suitably varied for adequately effecting the adjustment of the back member to position on the body.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a brassiere, a front member having side extensions, a back member having side extensions, tapes connected to the extensions of the front member, tapes connected to the extensions of the back member, a ring secured in the lower front portion of the front member and adapted to receive the tapes connected to the extensions of the front member after the same have been passed around the waist of the wearer to maintain the same in position after having been tied, and eyes also secured in the lower front portion of the front member adjacent the said ring and adapted to be connected to the tapes leading from the extensions of the back member to secure these in position.
2. In a brassiere, a front member having side extensions, a back member having side extensions, tapes connected to the extremities of the extensions of the front member,
tapes connected tothe extremities of the extensions of the back member, straps connected to the lower front portion of the front member, and a ring and eyes connected WALDEMAR KOPS.
