Egg-Beaters.
N0., IT, Patentedlune17,l873.
t TNI'IED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID MUNSON, INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
IMPRVEMENT IN EGG-BEATERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,067, dated June 17, 1873; application filed July 25, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID MUNSON, of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State ,of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in EggBeaters, of which the following is a speciication:
The improvement which I have made relates to devices for beating eggs by hand; and consists in constructing the beater from a single piece of tin by slitting it so as to form a series of strips, and separating every alternate strip, so as to form an elliptical or other shaped opening between them, and supporting the strips thus arched by a fixed transverse plate, thus forming a skeleton beater Of thin strips, which may also be perforated with holes, with upset ragged edges, and which cut through and beat up the eggs very effectually, and form a very cheap'beater.
In the drawings, a represents a plate of tin or other suitable material, ot' a length about twice that of its width, cut into parallel strips b, each of which being opened and curved in Opposite directions so as to form a space, c, between the upper and lower series of strips, in which positionthey are braced by one Or more cross-plates, d, which also serve to cut by their ends, while the curved strips b cut by their edges and agitate very completely the egg in a regular and uniform direction when used by the hand. The space c, between the bent strips b, may be of an elliptical or other shape, but it is formed by the upper and lower bent strips. These latter are very thin, and, by their alternate arrangement, form a series of spaces, e, and fiat surfaces with thin cutting-edges ou both sides of the beater, so that while forming a web of thin strips it is quite a solid and durable article.
These strips may be perforated with holes with upset ragged edges, which have the effeet to still more increase the cutting and agitating effect of the beater upon the eggs. l
The handle f is secured to the plate a, of strips in any suitable manner, and if desirable the front ends of the strips may be separated from each other; but I prefer to cut the strips from the plate so as to be intact therewith, and to arrange a single cross-plate between them, as shown in the drawings, which represent a view in perspective, a longitudinal, and a cross-section, Figures l, 2, and 3.
Having described my invention, I claiml. The hand egg-beater, constructed of a series Of upper and lower strips, alternating with each other to form a beater, essentially as described.
2. The strips of a hand egg-beater, perforated in the manner and for the purpose described.
DAVID MUNSON.
