G. W. HUEGERICH. OPERATING THOUGH. APPLICATION FILED JAN. 17. 1920.

PATENT OFFHJE.
GEORGE W. HUEGERICH, OF BREDA, IOWA.
OPEBATING-TROUG-H.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 13, 1921.
Application filed January 17, 1920. Serial No. 352,022.
, T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. Huron- RICH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Breda, in the county of Carroll and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Operating-Troughs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an operating trough and has for its primary object the construction of a device of this character that will more readily accommodate the various size animals to be operated upon and in such a manner that the exertion of the veterinarian will be reduced to a minimum.
An object of the invention is to construct a trough that may be adjusted in a number of directions so as to meet the necessary requirements met in practice.
Besides the above my invention is distinguished in the novel manner of constructing and associating the parts so that same maybe quickly and positively held in operative position or readily folded for conveyance.
With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein- Figure 1 is a sideelevation of the trough in operative position.
Fig. 2 is a top planview.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged end elevation with portions in section.
Fig. 1 is a detailed view of one of the hinged plates.
Fig. 5 is a detailed sectional view of the adjustable rod.
Again referring to the drawing illustrating one construction of my invention 1 designates a tube in which adjustably arranged a rod 2, which terminates in a foot 3 for engagement with the ground. This rod is clamped'in any of its adjustable positions by the thumbnut 4. The numerals 5 and 6 designate a pair of supporting members formed from suitably cut boards. Riveted to each of these boards are hinged plates 7 and 8 which terminate in a knuckle 9 engaging around the tube 1. A ring 10 fixed to the tube controls the position of the members on the tube. Each hinged plate 8 is formed with projections 11, one engaging a single hole 12 in a supporting plate 13 and the other adjustably associated with a series of holes 14. Thus it will be seen that the members may be adjusted toward and away from each other. The supporting plate 13 is provided with clips 15 for engagement over a fence board 16, which may be a. part of the pig-pen. To complete the invention I provide a retaining device for engagement over the neck of the animal operated on and shown in the form of a chain 17 having one end fixed to a member, as shown at 18, with the other end portion adjustably associated with the hook 19 connected to the other member. This chain 17 besides holding the animal in position, will support the members in adjusted position.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I provide an apparatus that may be adjusted in one direction to accommodate different size animals and in another direction to facilitate the work of the veterinarian. l I
A feature of my invention is the rigid, durable manner in which the parts are associated when in operative position and which, in a very simple manner, may be folded in a very compact space.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
1. An operating troughcomprising a tube, a rod adjustably mounted in the tube for the purpose described, supporting members hinged to the tube, and a supporting plate adjustably connected to the members.
2. An operating trough comprising a tube,
a rod adjustably mounted in the tube for the purpose described, supporting members hinged to the tube, a supporting plate adj ustably connected to the members, and a retaining device also adjustably connected to the members and extending in a direction to plate adj ustably associated with the members engage over the animal. and provided With clips for engagement 3. An operating trough comprising a with a stationary support, and a retaining 10 tube, supporting members, plates connected device hinged to one member and adj ustably to the supporting members and hinged to the connected to the other member.
' tube a rod adjustably mounted in the tube In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
for supporting one end of the trough a GEO. W. HUEGERICH.
