To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, reslding at Raynham, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nose- Gruards for Spectacles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved construction of nose-guard for spectacles which serves to prevent the bridge portion thereof from cutting into the nose of the wearer, and to facilitate the supporting of the lenses in proper position on the face of the wearer relative to the eyes; and the object of the invention is to provide an elongated plate or member adapted to set transversely of the bridge and be attached thereto to provide an extended bearing surface to prevent the bridge from cutting into the nose of the wearer.

With these and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawing:

Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved guard as mounted upon the bridge of a pair of spectacles.

Fig. 2 is a detail in perspective illustrating my improved guard as having an attaching clip riveted thereto.

Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the guard showing it bent in a slightly concaved form to fit that particular shape of nose.

Fig. 4 is a perspective view illustrating the clip portion as raised from the stock of the plate and integral therewith.

Fig. 5 is an end view illustrating the plate of the guard as slightly concave in cross section to conform somewhat to the nose of the wearer.

IVith reference to the drawing, 10 designates the nose guard plate which may he made in any suitable form and of any suitable material, such as metal or celluloid, but I preferably make the same of sheet metal which is adapted to be bent and shaped to conform to the outer contour of the bridge of the nose of the wearer. I also preferably form this plate with an extended area and in some cases in addition to bending it lengthwise I form the same in a concavoconvex shape in cross section, as illustrated Specification of Letters Patent.

in Fig. 5, to better fit around the nose bridge of the wearer.

In some instances I form a finger or clip 12 and rivet, solder or otherwise secure the same as at 13 to this plate, the free end 14 of this clip being adapted to snap over the bridge portion 15 of the lenses 16 whereby this guard may be rotated or swung upon the bridge and so automatically conform to the general contour of the nose.

In some other cases I slit the plate as at 17 and raise the tongue or finger 18 from the bridge of the plate having one end 19 integral with the plate and the other end free to be swung outwardly sufiiciently to receive the spectacle bridge with a yielding pressure.

My improved nose guard is simple and practical in construction, may be readily applied to any eyeglass frame by the wearer,

and being of bendable material it may be shaped both lengthwise and in cross section to nicely fit the nose and so form a plate with an extended area adapted to rest against the nose and effectually prevent the bridge portion of the glasses from cutting into the flesh of the wearer.

The foregoing description is directed solely toward the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes towhich the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A nose-guard for Spectacles comprising a plate adapted to be attached to the center portion of the bridge member and set transversely thereof, said plate being provided with a finger or clip to frictionally engage the bridge.

2. A nose-guard for spectacles comprising an elongated plate having an extended bearing surface adapted to set transversely and beneath the bridge member, and a clip on said plate adapted to frictionally grip the bridge to adjustably hold the plate in position thereon.

3. A nose-guard for spectacles comprising an elongated plate having an extended bearing surface and adapted to set transversely of and beneath the bridge member, and a spring clip on said plate adapted to grip and bind said plate to said bridge whereby the plate may stving upon the bridge and automatically adjust itself to the nose it.-
