Description
To all whom it may concern:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH W. GRANT AND CHARLES H. COOK, OF PROVIDENCE, B. I.
IMPROVEMENT IN BRACELETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 139,3ll, dated May 27, 1873; application filed February 13,11873.
Be it known that we, JOSEPH W. GRANT and CHARLES H. COOK, both of the city and county of Providence and State of lthode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bracelets, of which the following is a specification, referring to the accompanying drawing making part of the same, in which- Figurelis aperspective view of myimproved bracelet. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
Similar letters indicate like parts in all the figures.
My invention consists in making a bracelet which consists of a box-front and a straprear portion in combination, for the sake of a cheaper construction, and to unite the massive appearance and ornamental efi'ect of the former class with the ease of adjustment and security of fastening peculiar to the latter class.
In the drawing, A is the front or part of the bracelet which is exposed to view when worn on the wrist, and B is the rear or part that is under the wrist, and is, in consequence, but little exposed to View. The front A is composed of two plates, a and c, of sheet metal, called, respectively, the front and lining, with a hollow space, H, between, which gives it its appearance of considerable thickness, and it thickness or strap of metal in two parts, F and G, which are connected to the two hollow ends of the box-front A, with some fanciful device like the two buckles D, and so that the front plate and lining plate of the box-front shall vanish into the rear or strap portion. The key-hole slide f is the means by which the strap-bracelet is usually fastened. This fastening is used in this instance, and is a convenient one to be employed.
I do not claim a box-bracelet; neither do I claim a strap-bracelet; but
I do claim as-my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patentv As a new article of manufacture, a bracelet consisting of the box-front A and the rear strappiece B, constructed and combined substantiall y as described, for the purpose set forth.
JOSEPH WARREN GRANT. CHARLES HENRY, COOK.
