HAROLD E. VIILLIAMS, OF CARTHAG'E, MISSOURI.
Application filed January 4, 1921.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, HAROLD E. lVILLmMs, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Carthage, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tag- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a tag holder of maximum rigidity and minimum weight.
A. further object is to obtain simplicity of construction and consequently economy of manufacture.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals indicate similar parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation, showing the parts disassembled;
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the tag holding bolt and nut, the main portion of the de vice being shown in side elevation.
Referring more particularly to the drawings 5 and 6 denote what may be termed the side members of the license tag holder and 7 the central bracing or stili'ening member. These members 5 and 6 which are identical, are formed from strips 11 and 12 of metal bent or doubled back upon themselves as at 8 to provide horizontally disposed spaced cross members 9 and 10 and 30 and 4:0 re spectively. The free ends 13 and 1a of the metal strips 11-12 are then bent clownwardly at right angles to the cross members as at 15 and 16 respectively to provide a rest for the'tag, and the opposite ends 17 and 18 are bent upwardly at right angles to the cross members as at 19 and 20 and then curved rearwardly, terminating in oppositely curved segmental portions 21 and 22 to form attaching arms.
In assembling the tag holde the two side members 5 and 6 are placed in the juxtaposed position illustrated in Fig. 2, with the Specification of Letters Patent.

stiffening 0r strengthening member 7 between and parallel with the downwardly bent ends 18 and 141, and upwardly bent and rearwardly curved ends 17 and .18, it being noted that the member 7 is rearwardly curved or bent at its upper portion to conform to the curvature of the ends 17 and 18. Rivets 19 secure the side members to the stiffening member and to each other thereby forming a rigid continuous stem S for the T-shaped head 4, the cross members 9 and.
10 and and of which receive therebetween the bolts 25 at any desired points of the length of the tag 26. These bolts screw through U-shaped clamps 23 and 24, the legs or which are adapted to embrace or straddle the cross members and thereby materially strengthen the latter, in addition to eliminating much vibration. are also effectually locked against rotary movement on the bolts as will be readily seen.
The stem S is secured to the neck of the radiator (not shown) by means of a clip 27 and bolts 28.
The member 7 strengthens the neck or stem portions S and the rest R of the holder. It also prevents the spaced cross members 9, 10 and 3O, 40 from separating and thus allowing the bolts 25 to pull therethrough.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A holder for automobile tags and the like, comprising strips of metal doubled intermediate their ends to form horizontally disposed spaced cross members, said strips having downwardly bent portions of substantial length, and upwardly bent portions at opposite ends, a brace member adapted to fit between and extending parallel with said bent ends of opposing strips and riveted thereto, said brace member and said bent ends forming a stem for the holder and a rest for the license tag, and attaching means on said stem.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
HAROLD E. WILLIAMS.
