To (1.77I 11i/07724125 may concern Be it known that I, RANDEY VAKILIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette-Holders, of which the following is a speciiication.

This invention has relation to cigarette and an object to provide a device of this character adapted to entirely inclose the cigarette, etc., through the provision of an apertured casing to permit draft through the holder, and means for closing the apertures and the channel of the mouthpiece to extinguish the cigarette by depriving the same of air, whereby the holder may be carried in the pocket without possibility of burning the clothing, the .cigarette being preserved for subsequent relighting thereby preventing waste.

In addition to the foregoing my invention compreheiids improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of the parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly set forth in the appended claims.

lith reference to the drawing, l() indi cates the mouth-piece which may be of theI usual type having a channel 11 enlarged at one end as indicated at 12 to receive the end of a cigarette. The end of the mouth-piece having the enlarged opening 12 is adapted to fit snugly within the open end 13 of thc tubular outer casing 14. This tubular casing 14- is closed at its opposite end for the purpose of retaining the inner ltubular casing 15. A disk 1G is welded or otherwise secured. within the outer end of the outer casing 14 as indicated clearly in Figs. 2 and 5 for the purpose Ofpermanently retaining the inner tubular casing 15 within the outer tubular casing 14. A suitable bearing shoulder 17 'is formed near the opened end of the outer casing 14 as clearly shown in Fig; 2 and one en d of the inner casing 15 abuts the same. this shoulder 17 constituting a hearing for one end of the inner tubular casing 15. i

The outer casing 14 and the inner casing 5 are each provided with registering apertures 18, but it should be understood that the inner casing 15 may be rotated within the outei` casing for the purpose of bringing these respective apertures formed in the casings 14 and 15 into or out of registration. .In F ig. 3, these apertures are shown in registration whereas in Fig. 4 the apertures are shown .out of registration.

he inner tubular casing 15 carries a suitable pin 19 which pin is adapted to work within a circumferentially extending slot 20 formed in the outer casing 14.A ture is clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing. It, of course, will be understood that the slot 20 will limit the movement of the pin 19 so that when the pin 19 is positioned at one end of the slot, the apertures formed in the casings 14 and 15 will be out of registration whereas when the pin 19 is in the opposite end of the slot' 20, the apertures will be brought into registration.

As'shown clearly in Figs. 1, 3 and 5 of the drawing, a suitable clean-out opening 21 is provided in each of the inner and outer casings 14 and 15. These openings 21 are also adapted to be brought into registration simultaneously with the apertures 18. The outer wall of each of the yclean-out openings 21 is formed flush with the inner face 22 of the outer end 23 of the inner tubular casing 15 as clearly shown in Fig. 5 so as to permit the ashes or other accumulated substance to be easily and conveniently removed from the inner tubular casing 15.

In use, the mouth-piece is detached from the casing and a cigarette inserted in the opening 12 of the mouth-piece, the cigarette then inserted in the casing and the mouthpiece then again engaged with the casing. Before the insertion of the cigarette in the casing, the cigarette is lighted and if the openings or apertures 18 are in registration, the cigarette may be smoked inasmuch as free entrance of air into the casing is permitted. The ashes of the cigarette at the same time will be retained within the casing. When the user is required to stop smoking, as for instance when entering a street car or This struc-y building, before the cigarette is entirely consumed, the remainder thereof may be preserved by rotating the inner casing in the manner stated above, so as to lap the apertures 18 of the outer casing. It, of course, should be understood that the ashes 'may be readily cleaned or removed from the casing as stated above, through the medium of the clean-out openings 21.

By means of a device above described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that a very simple and efficient means has been provided whereby the cigarette may be extinguished owing to the deprivation of air and at the same time prevent ashes from falling through the apertures of the casing whereby the holder may be carried in the pocket of the user without possibility of damage to the clothing.

Vhile l have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, realize that in practice various alterations thereover may be made, and I, therefore, dcsire to reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction, or otherwise altering the arrangeyment of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of he appended claims.

As shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing, the mouth-piece 1() is provided with a reduced threaded shank 24, which threaded shank 24 is threaded into the internally threaded open end of the outer casing 14.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A cigarette holder comprising a mouthpiece, an apertured outer tubular easing, said apertured outer tubular casing provided with an abutment shoulder formed on the inner face thereof near one end, the opposite end of said casing being closed, and an inner tubular' Casin rotatably mounted within said outer tu ular casing so as to bear against the abutment shoulder and the opposite end of the outer casing and provided with apertures adapted to register with the apertures formed in the outer casing, and means for limiting the rotary movement of said inner casing within said outer casing.

2. A cigarette holder comprising a mouthpiece, an apertured outer tubular easing. said apertured outer tubular casing provided with an abutment shoulder formed on the inner face thereof near one end, the opposite end v of said casing being closed, and an inner tubular casing rotatably mounted within said outer tubular casing so as to bear against the abutment shoulder and the opposite end of the outer casing and provided with a per tures adapted to register with the apertures formed in the outer casing, said outer casing provided with a circumferentially extending slot formed therein, and a projecting pin carried by said inner casing and working within said cireumferentially extending slot formed in said outer casing whereby the inner casing may be rotated wit-hin said outer casing, and said slot constituting means for limiting rotary movement of said inner casing within said outer casing.

A cigarette holder comprising a mouthpiece` an outer tubular casing provided with an open end adapted to receive said mouthpiece. said outer casing provided with a shoulder portion formed upon the inner face thereof, an inner casing rotatably mounted within said outer casing and having one end thereof abutting said shoulder.. said outer casing being closed at its opposite end for producing a bearing for one end of said inner casing, said inner and outer casings provided with apertures adapted to be brought into registration` means for rotating the inner casing within said outer casing, and said inner and outer casings provided with registering cl-ean-out openings formed near the outer ends of said casings.

A cigarette holder comprising a mouthpiece. an outer tubular casing provided with an open end adapted to receive said mouthpiece. said outer easing provided with a shoulder portion formed upon the inner face thereof` an inner casing rotatably mounted within said outer casing and having one end thereof abutting said shoulder, said outer casing being closed at its opposite-end for producing a bearing for one end of said inner casing. said inner and outer casings provided with apertures adapted to be brought into registration, means for rotating the inner casing within said vouter casing, said inner and outer casings provided with registering clean-out openings formed near the outer ends of said casings, and one wall of each clean-out opening being flush with the inner face of the closedend of said inner tubular casing whereby ashes may be conveniently cleaned from said casings.

5. A cigarette holder including a mouthpiece` an apertured outer tubular casing being closed at one end and having a shoulder at the other end` an inner casing shorter than thel outer casing and abutting at one end against the closed end of the outer casing and at the other end against said shoulder whereby said inner casing will be held against longitudinal movement, and means for rotating said inner casing.
