ADJUSTABLE SLACK-HOLDER FOR GORDS, 8w.
lVnsrRUP and ERIc WESTRUI, subjects of the King of Gr'eatlBritain, and residents of New Brighton, Cheshire, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Slack-Holders for Cords, &c., of which the following is a specification. I
The object of our invention is to afford a simple, cheap, convenient and effective holding device for taking up or reducing slack in the adjustment of length of flexible suspender or other cords, etc.,-especially those used in electrical work, although applicable to various other uses where rope, wire, and similar cords are involved,the term cord as herein used by us being employed to designate any flexible connection which it may be desirable to extend or contract in length to meet the varying exigencies and requirements of use To this end, our invention consists in the specific combination, construction and arrangement of parts described andclaimed, distinctive features being the formation of one section of the device with a bifurcated bight drum protuberant' through the other section, and the use of a straddle spring cotter pin in conjunction therewith as a means of coupling the parts together and augmenting frictional resistance, all as hereinafter fully set forth.

axis until the desired amount of slack of cord is taken up around said drum,accidental unwinding being prevented by frictional resistance between the contactual surfaces.
This frictional resistance is augmented by a. spring cotter pin S, the shank s, of which engages with holes, formed for the purpose in the protuberant end (1', of the drum D, while the free spring jaw ends 8, s straddle the peripheral surface of said protuberant end 03, of the drum D, and press against the outer surface of the box section B, as shown I.

If it is desired topositively lock the bight drum D, against rotation onits axis, to effact a relatively permanent length of cord or suspender, a wedge. may be introduced either lnto the open end of the bight slot 0?, or into either of the cord holes 6, b, as may befound most expedient.
The capacity of the box section B, is sufficient to accommodate several turns of the Y cord around the drum I), if desired,such
bight wind being isolated and protected from observation, and from contact with extraneous objects, so that a compact, neat appearance is attained, and all danger of entanglement obviated.
It will be seenthat our device comprises .a casing formed by the box section B, and the cover section 0, and a slotted rotatable bight drum D, together with frictional resistance means for preventing the rotation of said drum on its axis unless forc'e isapplied sufficient to overcome such frictional resistance.
What we claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
1. An adjustable cord bight holder of the character designated, comprising a casing formed in two sections, one rotatable on the 1 other, one section being formed with a slotted and bifurcated cord bight drum the end of which is protuberant axially through the other section, and frictional resistance means for sustaining the bight drum, section. against rotation on the other section, for the purpose described.
2. An adjustable cord bight holder of the character designated, comprising a casing formed in two sections one rotatable on theother, one section being formed With a slotted and bifurcated cord big'ht drum the end of Which is protuberant axially through the other section, and a spring cotter pin straddling the outer end of said cord bight drum and formed With a central shank portion extending through holes formed for the purpose in said bight drum.
3. An adjustable cord bight holder of the character designated, comprising a casing consisting of a box section formed ith peripheral cord holes, a cover section rotatable
