JOS HUA PERKINS, OF DANIELSONVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN WENDOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,579, dated May 6, 1873 application filed October 19, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSHUA PERKINS, of Danielsonville, in the county of Windham and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved \Vindow-Vent-ilator, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of one or more of the panes of a window made in two parts, and one or both of the said parts arranged in suitable guide-ways for sliding along the other part for opening a space for the passage of air for ventilation.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a windowsash containing only one pane of glass, which is arranged according to my invention; and Fig. 2 is a section of Fig. 1 taken on the line as 00.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A and B represent the two parts of the pane of glass, which are divided transversely at or about the middle and arranged to lap each other slightly. The part A is permanently fixed in the sash, but the. part B is arranged in guide-ways 0 so as to slide up and down alongside of the part A for opening the space below. A thumb-piece, D, is attached to the part B for convenience in operating it. The upper partinay be made to slide, if preferred, and the lower part stationary; or both parts may slide. Any approved arrangement ofguide-ways may be used.
The pane may be divided vertically and the movable parts arranged to slide horizontally, if preferred.
One or more panes of a window will be arranged in this way, as preferred. Probably the best arrangement would be to have one at the top andanother at the bottom.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A window-pane consisting of two parts, A B, one or both arranged in guide-ways to open and close, and provided with a thumb-piece for actuating them, substantially as specified.
JOSHUA PERKINS. \Vitnesses: T. B. MOSHER,
ALEX. F. ROBERTS.
