Description

C. A. BARTLETT AND L. H. EAST-MAN.
.JAR HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED A.ua.n. 19:9.
Patented July 12, 1921.,
I0 WITNESS:
CHARLES A. BARTLETT AND LYI/[AN H. EASTIVIAN, 0F CAMPBELL, NEBRASKA; SAID EASTMAN ASSIG-NOR OF HIS RIGHT TO HENRY NEBRASKA.
ERICKSON', OE CAMPBELL,
JAR-HOLDER.
Application filed August 11, 1919.
To all 10 ham it may concern Be it known that we, Crrannns A. BART- Ln'rT and LYMAN H. EASTMAN. citizens of the United States, residing at Campbell. in the county of Franklin and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Tinprovements in Jar-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in jar holders and aims to provide a holder of simple and durable cha "acter, which will tightly grip and hold a jar.
Another object of he invention is the provision of a jar which may he quickly adjusted to jars of diil'erent diameters.
Another object is the provision of a jar of this character, which will remain in a gripping position until manually released.
A further object is the provision or" a holder, by means of which heated jars may be handled without danger of injury to the holder, due to the breaking of the Other objects and advantages oi. the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection. with the accompanying drawings.
in the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a jar holder embodying the present invention the said view illustrating by dotted lines the position of the locking lever when the holder is in use.
Fig. :2 is a edge view of the same.
Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts the holder as illus tra led comprises a gripping band, 10 which is preferably formed of a strip of resilient metal and has secured to and projecting from one end a rigid handle 11. The op posite end of the band 10 has secured to and projecting laterally therefrom, a plate 12, to which is pivotally secured. as indicated at 13, a locking lever 14.
Secured to the end of the gripping band 10, which carries the handle 11, is one end of an adjusting element, preferably in the form of a chain 1?, this chain being adapted to engage a notch or slot 15, formed in a lug 16, secured to and extending laterally from the lever 14, the links of the chain being adapted to engage the edges of the notch. 15, so that the diameter of the band Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 12, 1921.
Serial No. 316,826.
10 may be regulated. For the purpose of limiting the movement of the lever 14 in one direction, the plate 12 carries a stop 17, which is adapted to engage one edge of the lever.
The. band 10 is provided with a compressihle lining in the form of a pad 18, which may be 01" any suitable material.
In the use of the invention, the band 10 is adjusted around the outside oi a jar, or other receptacle, by means of the chain 14, whereupon the lever 1% its pivot in the position shown by dotted lines in F 1, the lever then being upon the opposite side of the center of the direct pull of the chain, so that it will remain in this position until manually released. The holder will thus be secured upon the jar against accidental displacement while the lining 18 will prevent any tendency of the band to break the holder. Should such breakage occur. due to the heated contents of the jar, the handle 11 and lever l l are of suti'icient length to prevent injury to the operator. In addition to providing means for positioning the holder from the ar, the handle permits of the jar being used after the manner of a dipper to facilitate filling.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details or construction and the rigat is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention. what is claimed is:
A jar holder of the class described comprising a resilient metal gripping band, a rigid handle secured to and projecting from one end thereof, a plate secured to and pro' jecting laterally from the opposite end of said band a locking lever pivotally secured to said plate, an adjusting element secured to one end 01" said band a lug extending laterally from the lever and said lug having a slot formed therein to receive said adjusting element, and a stop carried by said plate to engage one edge of said lever.
In testimony whereof we atilx our signatures.
