THERMAL CIRCUIT CONTRLLER.
APPLICATION FILED Mn. 12, 191B.

WILLIAM-W. BALDWIN, OF DESKINS, VIRGINIA.
THERMAL C'I RGUIT-CONTROLLER.V
To all whom t may concer/ia.'` y
Be it known that l, VILLIAM W. BALD- wiN, a `citizen of the `United States, residing at Deskins, in the county of Buchanan and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful mprovements in TherinalCircuit-Controllers, ofwhich the following is a specication.
This invention relatesy to an automatic tire alarm apparatus by means ot which visual as well as audible signals will be Figure 1 is a front elevation'of the appa-v ratus with the cover partly thrownfback;
Figui?. is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. BisA a detailed view. n Referring'to thefdrawing, tlie'nuineral 1 designates a casingv having` a hinged door 2 upon which is mounted an electriiA bulb 3. This electric bulb makes connection with a pair of normally spaced contacts i arranged interiorly of the easing'.
The numeral 5 designates a bar bent tov have three parallel portions 6, 7 and 8, the portions 6 and 7 beingl pivotally connected to tl'ierasing as indicated at 9, while lthe as to be capable ot assuminga li'iosition to 'fo-rco the contacts together.
Encircling the vportion '8 is the apertured extremity 10 ot a dog; 11 which is mounted so that the bill. l2 may enga-oe the teeth oi? a. rat-Chet wheel 13.' This ra tibet wheel has connected thereto inthe usual. mamier a coil spring- 14 andcooperating with thcratchet wheel is alliammer mechanism adapted to strike a' gong 16 arranged interiorly of the casing.V Y
From the-foregoing description it will be seen that when the rod isv moved about its pivot, the portion or striker arm 8 will move in such a 'direction asv to close the contacts and move the dog out of engagement with with the y ously Vset forth.
Specification of Letters Patent. `Patented June 28 192,:Ly Application led January 12, 1918. Serial No. 211,642.
.the ratchet wheel with the result that the audible alarm mechanism is thrown into operation a'nd also the bulb 3 is illuminated.
For giving movements to therod upon a rise in the temperature of the surroundinno' medium, I provide a striker 17 rotatably mounted upon a rod 18 that is in turn rigiidly supportedbythe casing. Encircling' the rod 18 with its intermediate portion Y'lflflbly engaging the striker 17 is a coil i spring 19, the purpose ot' wliiehis toy violently throwk the` striker into engagement bar 5 under the conditions previ- Attached to the striker is a combustible element 20 of a length great enough to protect a large area. At a certain point in its length the element 2O passes over a pulley Q1V so that a portion thereof beyond the pulley can support a fusibleY weight ele- `ment 22. By this latter arrangement it will be seen that should the element 20 be 'consumed the striker will perform its function and the same is true when the fusible elementv fuses. l,
It to vbe understood that the structural vveinbolfliment tbepinvention as a whole .and "its rvarious features as shown is merely illus-` trative andnot restrictive since I well aware that many of theV details of construction can be widely varied without departing iiirom the spiritof the invention such as dispensino" with the striker and its associated elements allowing the fusible element to act directly'upon the bar 5 inopposition -to a suitably arrangedl spring. I therefore do not desire to be limited in these particulars or in any others except as set forthin the appended claim. i
What I claim is:
. A device of tlieclass described comprisingir la' pivotedU-shaped yoke having one end offset to define a striker arm, a pairV ot ,snrinfr contarots vdisposi-3d in the path ol" travel. ofsaid striker arm, a pivotedlever, a spring engaging; said lever and normally urgingthc same toward said yoke, and a lever and holdingthe same vunder tension against vthe resistance Vof said spring, whereby upon combustion of said. combustible member said spring ypressed arm will be released to engage and move said yoke whereby the striker arm thereof will move said contacts into engagement. j
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
WILLIAM BALDWIN.
