Description

WILLIAM ESKIL, OF CORONA, NEW' YORK.
VALVE-TOOL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 21, 1921.
Application filed March 26, 1920. Serial No. 368,978.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. ESKlL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corona, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Valve-Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends the provision of a tool for removing overhead valves with greater ease and safety the tool being simple in construction so that it can be manufactured and sold at a nominal cost.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be readilyunderstood when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement t parts claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this specification like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the tool constructed in accordance with one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation.
Fig. 3 is a View showing using the tool.
Referring to the drawing in detail, indicates the tool formingthe subject matter of my invention and which tool may be constructed from any suitable material. T he tool is formed with a longitudinally disposed slot 11 which opens at one end of the tool and which slot receives the valve stem 12 when the tool is in use. Depending from opposite sides of the tool 10 are lugs 13 which prevent the tool from slipping oil the valve when the parts are associated for use. Should the tool be constructed oi wood, I provide the lower end of the tool with a. metallic wear plate 14, which is secured to the manner of the end by means of suitable fastening elements 15. The wear plate 14-. is provided with a central opening 16 which is disposed in alinement with the slot 11.
In Fig. 3, l have illustrated the manner of using the tool. As shown the plate 14': rests against the valve spring washer 16, while this washer is engaged at opposite points by means of the lugs 13, which as above stated are provided to prevent the tool from slipping while it is being used. The valve stem 12 projects up into the slot 11 through the opening in the plate 14; Pressure is then exerted upon the tool 10 to compress the spring 17, during which operation the valve stem 12 moves up into the slot 11 of the tool. When the pin 18 is relieved of the pressure of the spring, the pin can bereadily withdrawn from the valve stem. after which the tool is gradually relieved of the pressure which has been exerted thereon until the spring 17 is fully expanded. The tool is then removed from the spring and the valve can be readily taken from its position.
While I have shown and described what I consider the preferred embodiment of the invention I desire to have it understood that what is herein shown is merely illustrative, that I do not limit myself in this connection, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as "full within the scope of what is claimed.
What I. claim isz A tool for the purpose specified comprising a body portion having a longitudinal slot opening at one end, lugs depending from secured to one end of the tool and having an opening disposed in alinement with said slot.
In testin'iony whereof I after my signature.
WILLIAM A. ESKIL.
