lie it known that 1, DAVID CURTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and use- 1 ful Improvements in Sanitary Cups, of which v and more the following is a description.

My invention relates to that general class of dishes and devices for use at soda fountains or other public places where each dish or cup is used for a single customer and destroyed as soon as used.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheap, convenient and highly sanitary device of the kind described wherein a thin cup or receptacle is employed which may be formed of paper or other flexible or comparativelyweak material with a holder arranged to support the sides of the cup so that a spoon or other implement may be used in the vessel without the risk of injuring the cup when in service or tending to cause the same to leak.

To this end my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, particularly pointed out in the claim.

of the cup protruding above the large end of said socket member to facilitate drinking from the cup without bringing the lip in contact with the holder. A portion 4 of the small end of the cup also protrudes beyond the lower end of the socket 3 through a suit able aperture 5 provided therein for that purpose to prevent the possibility of-any foreign substance accumulating in the bottom of the socket and interfering in any' manne'r with the accurate seating of the cup 1 in the socket. The size of the aperture 5 is preferably such that a spoon or other implement used in the cup'cannot under any circumstances extend through the aperture and engag the unsupported wall "of the cup.

In the form shown a base 7 of any suitable form or construction is provided having a tubular shank or column 8 rigidly attached theretowith the upper end 9 of the shank '8 annularly flared to provide a seat neatly to fit the exterior of the socket member 3 and preferably rigidly secured thereto to hold the socket member in an upright position with the large end upwardl, said socket member projecting into said column 8 substantially midway of the length of said socket member. The several parts are so proportioned that the cup protruding beyond the socket cannot be reached with the implement and the portion protruding above the socket isalso, above the normal height of the fluid inthe cup and would not ordinarily be pressed u on by an implement used inthe cup and if with unusually severe or careless handling the part 6 becomes injured or destroyed no damage could result since as before stated it isnot intendedto fill the on with liquid above the upper rim of the soc et 3.
